I'm planning to have a custom 4x2 straight headstock with staggered tuners. A vendor on Ebay offers a custom set of Hipshot staggered tuners for anyone's needs. The set for a typical 6 inline staggered posts offers:

20 mm for E and A,
19 mm for D and G, and
18 mm for B and e.

I was thinking of designing a similar headstock like this:

Will this combination work for it:
20 mm for E and A (right handed)
19 mm for D and G (right handed)
19 mm for B (left handed) and
20 mm for e (left handed).

I bought a 4x2 set of the chrome hipshots from them about 2 years ago. Most amazing bang for the buck tuner out there, in my opinion, I love them. As far as stagger goes, your proposed combination would likely work. The amount of stagger should depend on how far from the nut your tuner is. However, if you are going to have an angled headstock, the stagger is unnecessary.

I have used the little e string staggered tuner for the G string and used a string tree for b and e with success. those were sperzels but I believe I also did it with fenders.
