…and how this will impact my participation here on TDPRI.

The big thing for purposes of TDPRI discussion involves playing out. I have only one venue that I play for, an outdoor restaurant that has booked me about six times a year, on average. I haven’t even tried to find other venues to play.

(I’m talking about paid bookings, not my volunteer work at seniors/retirement communities. That will hopefully continue for some time to come.)

I’m not expecting the booking arrangement with the aforementioned venue to last forever. And since I’m not looking for others places to gig, when the arrangement at this venue runs its course, that’ll be it. Again, except for playing for old folks in a home, I’ll be done playing out.

The effect of this has impacted not only my performance schedule but also my gear budget and by extension even my participation in thread discussions here.

I recently saw here in Bad Dog Café a thread asking about gear purchases in the last 48 hours. I’m pretty sure that I haven’t bought any new gear—not even strings—in the last 48 weeks. Quite the contrary, I intend to sell a number of guitars, amps and my multi-fx pedal.

I don’t post as much anymore. I don’t even check in every day. Part of that is because I’m of the opinion that the administration of this forum is not what it once was, but it’s also because gear and gigging is less important in my life. (I do, however, still play guitar every day.)

When I do post, it’s most likely to be here in BDC, having nothing to do with guitars, gear or gigs. Now I post pics of my dog Bella or aspects of life here in South Texas.

So, as of now I plan to stay a member here, I just won’t be chiming in that often. I’m not mad at anybody, it’s just where I am in life. Nothing lasts forever, not even TDPRI. But my run from 2008 to present has been pretty good.

Please check in, and stay on board here.

FWIW, I agree it’s not what it used to be, but what is? The one thing we humans can count on to never change, is that everything will always change.

FWIW part II- I have never gotten the impression that an overwhelming percentage of members here were gigging musicians. I’d be surprised if it was half. Seems like most of the threads I see are about home use stuff. Either for jam caves or home recording. Seems like a large percentage of the people that do gig are doing it at church, not clubs or other venues. Nothing wrong with that, but it is an entirely different pursuit than gigging for the heathen masses in dens of iniquity. Lol.

At any rate, stick around as long as you can. You’re part of the atmosphere here.

The important thing is that we're here when you do need us.

As for the TDPRI built only for those who play out? Nah....I've "gigged" less than a handful of times in my life. BUT I play my Tele almost daily. I just don't care for the playing out aspect. I do like the purchasing stuff aspect.

From one feller south Texas native to 'nother, come back, now, ya hear.

+1. I only opened the thread because of who posted it.

Due to a variety of factors I don't play out any longer. I've mentally moved on. Still want to play but differently somehow. And yes, things around here have changed. I'm usually on the wrong side of things. ;)

We really do want to continue to hear from you. Especially since you said you volunteer to do music in nursing homes. I do that myself once a month and will do this a week from Wednesday afternoon.

It’s like you are a kindred soul.

So please continue to check in here.

Although I’m not an old timer on the site I’ve been playing telecasters and Strats a very long time before I joined. I feel privileged to be a member now even though I’ve only recently joined the past few years. I actually joined after I retired! Even though it’s not the way it used to be I still like the way it is now. I truly wish I joined earlier because of the camaraderie more than anything. Some good folks here with tons of experience and knowledge. Stay safe!

You probably have the biggest private collection of Logan Custom Guitars anywhere outside of Mr. Logan’s Custom Guitar Shop. I hate to see that collection picked apart and sold but I understand exactly what you’re saying. You’ve got to do what’s best for you. Thank you for all of your posts that we have enjoyed and will continue to enjoy if you’ll continue to check in. Thank you for showing us your amazing guitar collection and letting us know how awesome Mr. Logan is. Thank you for being you and letting us get to know you. I personally hope you never stop posting here.

I'll just say I think I understand, priorities change, and though I enjoy so much of the knowledge, comradery and humor, and what happens on the site, I also relate to your feelings of ..... disillusionment, it's not like it was.

Don't be a Stranger, Larry (see what I did there? 😉)

Seriously, you're part of the core around here and we like having you around. From another fellow Texan, jump in anytime you feel led to! Pictures of Bella are not mandatory, but are always welcome.

I agree with the others who have opined that those of us that do gig, ain't doing it as much as we once did. Please don't let that keep you away!
