Yes, you read that right. I'm looking for some info or experiences from people who have had their Teles set up with SC in the bridge and middle (like a Nashville) but with a humbucker in the neck. Essentially, I've got the Keef thing in my Thinline, along with a push-pull to put them out-of-phase. While I really like each one separately and am mostly satisfied with the 2 in-between options, I'd still like a bit more Strat quack than I get currently. But I don't want to route another cavity unless I can be reasonably certain I'll get more of the sound I'm looking for.

So, first question: who has done the SSH thing? In particular, is there definable Strat-like quack in the 4 position (neck/middle) with the humbucker?

Second question: if I did put in a middle pickup, what about location?
-A standard distance from the bridge pickup?
-Equidistant between the bridge and neck-facing coil of the humbucker? (Note: the neck-facing coil has A5 pole pieces like a Fender single-coil instead of the typical PAF with screws and a bar magnet. While it doesn't sound like a single coil, it sounds pretty Fendery).

I don't think there is more than 1/2" between those 2 points, so it may be moot. Still I'd hate to mislocate the route if it matters.

Strat Quack .... I have a PRS SE Single cut that I put the humbucker neck pickup on a push/pull pot after dismantling the stock two-wire humbucker and adding conductors. Pot-down is standard single coil, pot-up is parallel coils. The way I get it to quack:

-raise the screws 1/4 to 3/8 inch above the bobbin
-lower the whole pickup by the same amount
-put the screws in a Strat stagger pattern with low G screw
-play the guitar on clean channel and raise/lower the whole pickup to find the sweet spot that maximizes quack.
-set the bridge pickup height to 'balance' with the neck pickup

If you are splitting the humbucker and installing a middle pickup to make the system quack, the same principles apply. Stagger seems to be important with lower or weaker 'middle' pickup. I have a Strat I put in a 4kohm middle pickup while the neck is 6kohm and it quacks really easily.

I have an HSS (modern player) It can quack. I found it actually quacks better with the HB turned around backwards. That might apply to SSH too!
