Guys , what about the SRRI ?

Ive searched through old posts , so first let me say this :

Forget the cork sniffing attitude , the originals just doesnt exist here , you would laugh if you saw what they want for 60´s or 70´s amps here.I looked at one today , no idea how old , but it looked absolutely great , couldnt crank it in this guys small apartment though.

Forget that I will have to use a pedal to play it with distortion , I know that , and forget about the size/weight issues , I can handle it.......

And please dont suggest a TR instead , I really dont like them

The reason Im looking for one , is that I have never heard an SR sound bad , clean , clean-ish or dirty .They always seem to have a big , full sound , no matter who uses them , or what guitar is plugged in.....

So , what about those SRRI´s ? Quality , speakers , tubes etc ?

The SRRI is no better/worse than any of the other BF reissues. It is what it is. The only thing I don't like about it is the Italian Jensen P10R speakers. IMO, P10Qs would have been a much better choice.

I have one of those. I've had it since 2004 or so. It was the first really nice amp I ever got and it's still in pristine condition:

It's gotten a fair amount of use and it has never, ever, EVER let me down. It is a really good amp. Really crisp highs, tight lows, and quite a scooped midrange, but without becoming a problem. It has a really airy sound, and of all the Fender amps I have, it has the glassiest tone. To tell you the truth, I don't have a huge amount of experience with vintage Super Reverbs, BUT I do have a vintage Twin Reverb and a vintage Pro Reverb and, tonally speaking, the Super Reverb is not inferior to those. It is different, yes, but not necessarily worse. The amp is strong in the highs, much of that due to the speakers. Some people don't like that, but I actually do. You gotta' know how to work it, so to speak. I recorded this tune with a Super Reverb Reissue. It's very, very clean, so it will give you a good idea of what mine sounds like. I used a Fender Jaguar to record it, and I played both guitars in this song with the same guitar and amp. The song showcases the amp's tremolo well, and I use a lot of the amp's spring reverb on a solo in the song. What you'll hear in the song is a totally stock SRRI aside from tubes, played really clean for the great majority of the tune.

Cool to see someone interested in the SRRI. I, weirdly enough, don't see people talking about them much on forums I frequent. It's usually the Twin Reverb Reissue or Deluxe.

Nothing wrong with them, sound really good and can always be made to sound better.

I'm one of the cork sniffers for sure, but if you can't have original it's the next best thing.

Well , I bought it , so now I can really try it out !

I didnt mean to sound too harsh reg cork sniffing , I would love to own a vintage one. I have even tried to get one from Munich on ebay last week ( more than 1000 km´s away , and no shipping ) , and have tried working out something from the UK as well.

So , this one came along , and so far I think its great. Its in really good condition , I have no idea how old it is.

Looks completely stock to me , after I have been going over it , and tightened nearly every screw and bolt on it.

The seller was sad that he didnt have the footswitch , I found it in new/unused condition packed up inside!

Fender branded tubes in the preamp , power tubes are Sovteks , maybe stock too ?

Im surprised it isnt louder. Its like the last 4 or 5 clicks on the dial only gives more distortion and not extra volume.

I have just checked that the speakers are all working , and that the power tubes look about the same when playing.......Whatever , if there is a problem with it , I will find out.

Its loud enough for my needs , and it sounds absolutely fabulous !

Green lantern , nice playing !

I guess the SRRI doesnt get too much attention these days , I think its the most expensive of the normal vintage style amps.

Not many kids want them , and the Twin is more talked about for sure. Lately theres been a lot of interest in Princetons , so maybe thats why. I tried to find feedback on-line , but theres not much to find compared to the other models.

I thought I would have to use a pedal in front of it most of the time , but its a lot different that what I thought. Cant wait to use it with the band.....I´ll get my son to wrestle it in and out , he-he !

I prefer Super Reverbs over Twins. I really do, and I have one of each.

Something about 4 x 10 speakers just really moves air. I think the Super Reverb is the finest amp Fender has ever made. The Twin can be a little too bright, too crisp and spanky. The Super Reverb just fits the bill perfectly, the right amount of clean, volume, excellent tone.

I think the SRRIs are also wonderful amps. My friend has one, I took my 66 Super over to his house and we played them side by side, back and forth. It was AMAZING how close the Reissue sounded compared to an original AB763 blackface stock Super Reverb. I mean it was very close! Fender did an outstanding job with the SRRI.

Glad you got it! Keep that amp forever, you're gona love it, and you will probably never find another amp that sounds better. Congrats and enjoy...

I've owned a BFSR for decades, but never had the chance to play it alongside a SRRI. From all accounts they sound close enough that it comes down to the way individual amps sound different from each other.

The SR ia great amp. loud, a little darker than a twin, although nearly as clean. The downside is they are sort of a one trick pony - no real distortion - but the clean tones is amazing. And best part, with pedals you can get to practically anyplace you need to go, from Derek Trucks blues to vintage Rush. Have fun with the new amp. You're going to love it!

Very true, except that I would point out that at around 5-6 on the volume dial, there is an absolutely amazing crisp mean breakup, that only the Super does. It is not as clean as the twin, rather glassier & meaner. And you are so right it takes pedals so well.

Thanks guys , I really like the fact that my tax return went towards something music related this year !
You are right about the breakup at that point of the dial , it just surprises me that there is so much overdrive after that. A strat sounds so good on all pickups through this amp , yay !
My son normally use an Engl stack , and he checked out the SRRI today for half an hour or so. He really likes it too , especially playing with the tremolo , LOL....
Someone suggested removing the 1st tube , if not using the normal channel anyway , something about " bleed through " , anyone tried it ?
Lower gain tube for the reverb ? 2,5 at the knob is enough at the moment...
