I'm not calling out anybody, or trying to make anyone feel like I'm putting anyone down, I'm just curious. Seriously. Please, take no offense.

Does anybody else wonder why, on a site dedicated to a model of Fender guitar that is also produced under the Squier name, that we see so many references to "Squire" by people who own them? It's just something that has caused me to scratch my head since I joined the site earlier this year.

Again, not pointing fingers, just curious.

I find it a little annoying too, mainly because I'm slightly obsessive about written grammar/spelling. It annoys the hell out of me if I make a spelling/grammatical error in a post, I have to go back and correct it!

It's odd because when it comes to speech, I couldn't give a rat's ass...

I know that Squire is its own word, too, and as a golfer that name means Gene Sarazen. The only person we ever see spell "Fender" as anything different is Fuzzy, and we know that's just him being himself. It doesn't annoy me, it just perplexes me.

there is a good side: when you type in "squire guitar" on ebay, you get listings from those too dumb to read the headstock of the guitar they are selling. cuts out some of the bidders who are looking for squiers.

Yes, I've walked down that road. I always search minor misspellings on eBay.

Too good, it's too good!

Just kidding.

Too well, it's too well!

Just kidding.

I'm also a bit annoyed by the Squire thing. I guess it might be because people think "Esquire, so it must be Squire," but iono.

Blame it on Fender for not being creative.

If spelling bothers you, hearing my southern fried accent would probably melt your head. I've never enunciated in my life. :)

I'm with J-man.

Wouldn't say I'm obsessive but....plus I am the owner of many Squiers.

I understand that people make mistakes but when you're talking about a guitar that's in front of you, how hard is it?

I think when CBS bought up the failing string manufacturer, that was probably a wise move, to tie up the name. Not sure how much they paid though.

When the Camaro was introduced, I don't think anybody realized just how many folks would spell it 'Camero' but a ton do. And Walter Chrysler, hey, it was his name, and he did try to offer other brands under the umbrella with easier to spell names.

A lot of other names could have been used instead of Squier. They could always change it, after all Rickenbacker began as Rickenbacher. And in many countries the car or truck you drive really is a 'Chevy' not a Chevrolet.

I've often imagined making up a bunch of 'Squire' decals, and placing them on guitars to be sold just to see what might happen.

Squier it is, but it's a crazy spelling. I suppose it's someone's name so all bets are off.

Given my choice I would prefer "Squire" because the etymology and definition seems appropriate for Fender's line of entry-level guitars. I can understand why so many mistakes take place.

Plus the spell-check feature works against the diligent this time.

There's a local burger joint called 'Burger Haven'. So many people called it 'Burger Heaven', that they gave in and changed the name to 'Burger Heaven'.

Wouldn't "Burger Haven" be a place where it was safe to be a burger? Imagine, you show up at a place called "Burger Haven" expecting to be safe. The next thing you know, your wife and kids are cooked and eaten as you watch. The horror! The name "Burger Heaven" just seems more honest and straightforward.

Shhhhh! Thats how I scored some cheap parts!

Well if everyone was "smart" wouldn't ebay auctions say "FEndEr TELECASTER"? ;)
