Let me know if you find a PG that fits without modding it.
Just flipped my control plate and put a coil split push/pull on along with a tone control. Now it's master volume and master tone. Sounds great and it's nice to be able to do swells and have a tone control.
Im planning to get this and get a HB sized Filters. You think it will fit in the bridge plate and pickguard?
Made an account for this thread, wish I Knew about this site long ago. The neck is an alnico 5 split single @ 7.8K and the bridge is an alnico 5 @ 11.5K with gold polepieces both wound by MJS, nos pots and it's wired like an old jazz bass (two volume, half turn the neck one for "boost") Neck feels better than custom shops. Idk if that's just me or some mishap in the Mexican factory. Thinking of adding a kahler but not sure if I want to go with the flatmount or the other
Love the gold version, although I'd 86 the pg for a cream one.
Totes gonna, thinking about adding a gr55 pup so I need to figure out if I want a kahler or stick with the sustainy body thru. I hate locking nuts tho so I'll probs need to find a set of sperzels
I know this is an old question, but in case anyone is wondering, I got this the HB-cutout pickguard in the picture below from WD and it was a direct swap for the original mirror guard.
John % wipping it out from the file marked INVENTIve/CREATIVE FILE
Brad would be proud
Thanks, was about to order a blank. Glad I don't have to do all the work now.
I just bought a neck from one of these guitars from The Stratosphere for a partscaster... I realize it's a 12" radius, and a modern C profile.... but it feels tiny??? Smaller than any other neck I own:
MIA tele (9.5", Modern C)
MIM tele (12", Modern C)
Squire VM (9.5", Modern C)
... is it just the 12" radius? Or are these necks smaller than normal?
It is a pretty thin neck. Not narrow, but thin front-to-back.
I'm normally not a fan of the Modern C profile, but I like the rest of the guitar so much that in this case, I've adjusted to it.
I've actually thought about replacing it, but the black-painted headstock and chromed lettering just look too cool, so I'm leaving it alone.
I haven't even put the guitar together yet, and I was thinking the same thing lol. I DO like the modern C, but felt even thinner? Maybe not, guess I'll know for sure once it has strings on it...
Saw this on Craigslist. The person put a P-90 in the neck. P-90 and humbucker is an interesting combo. Very cool guitar!
John 5 takes a Tele and puts all kinds of trems on it, all kinds of pups, paint jobs, pick guards, pots etc. etc.
Not to mention head-stocks.
Yet he always makes it his own. Give him a pure old Tele and he can play it like no one else.
Give him any guitar.
John 5 loves the Telecaster.
I think there's a major lesson in there somewhere.
How do you like the neck so far, assuming you've set it up?
Are the frets taller than typical Fender "medium jumbo"?
I see lots of comments on the neck being thin but nice, none about the fret size, and Fender doesn't give that spec either.
If the frets are jumbo I might need to get one of these...
The jumbos on the J Mascis Squier Jazzmaster almost took my money.
Once set up, it's not as thin as I'd feared. Altho the edges are kind of "abrupt"- not as rolled as MIA, MIM, MIK... going thumb-over isn't quite a comfy as on my other necks, but it's not a deal breaker. It's like the break angle where the neck transitions to the fretboard is kind of "sharper" than on my other 3 (all are supposedly the "Modern C" profile, and all are 9.5" radius)... IDK if it's the 12" radius causing that or what...
The frets are listed as medium jumbo, seems right compared to all my other Fender medium jumbo necks
Joining the club. I have one on the way. Pix when it arrives.
My co-guitarist in a band has one (gold). Awesome axe!
