I think one of these would be great for my home studio. I have a road worn tele and a cabronita so the P-90's seem to be a good pickup for some dirt and grit. Anyone have one of these and could comment on it? My Squier Cabronita I had a new bone nut, new pots, jacks and switches and a pro setup done and its awesome so I'm hoping the same work to one with P90's might get the same result! Also are these scarce - have only seen a few online for sale.

The necks are very well thought of.....

….but this was reflected in the price. :)

I had one for a while, but didn't bond with it. The neck everybody was all over about proved not chunky enough for me. The guitar weighed a ton. I did enjoy the neck pickup a lot though. But the bridge had a not too pleasant midrange honk to my ears. I planned to wait to get a neck pickup and replace the bridge one with it, but I got an offer for the guitar, so sold it and bought a Zoom R8 recorder from the money.

I don’t know. I got a Les Paul Special DC a couple years ago. Dang is it noisy. Heck noise doubles when two houses down the furness kicks in. And you want this for studio work ?
I dunno. I used to have the obsession you are having towards P-90’s , that “wow it screams like a sexy woman doing nasty housework.” But , heck I’d swap it for an SG.

I bought mine new for £180. Outstanding value.

Had one too, in black. I didnt like the maple neck so i changed it to an all solid rosewood neck.

best sounding P90 tele i’ve ever had. Those pickups are a gem!!

But, the body is just cheap. And decided to part it and sell it off. I kept the pickups because I want to do a high quality version of it, better woods, hardwares, pots, etc, but the same pickups.

a good dog and a black tele with a RW neck - you guys are killing me!

As far as recording - I have a pretty quiet electrical environment so the other teles have not been a problem and I like the middle pickup on a lot of teles

I had one when they came out. I wasn’t into it. An ex girlfriend had one as well and recently tried to sell it to me. I wasn’t interested. She ended up selling it for almost $400 so good for her. She wanted $200 from me.

@mugen74 wow $400 is a lot for a used Squier! I was figuring $275 - $300!

Yeah, if she had asked me for $150 I MAY have bought it. It was a little less than $400 I think $375 or something. I’ll have to ask her.

I had the humbucker one. I bought it new for $199 at GC. It was heavy, real heavy... the neck was thin, the frets needed a lot of work, the jack cup fell out. I fixed the frets and the jack cup but I never played it so I sold it. I made my own P90 guitar.

I’ve played a couple of these, and the only complaint I had was the fact that I didn’t have any money when I found them for sale...

As a couple of people have noted, they’re not lightweight, but even with my surgically-repaired neck and shoulder, they weren’t “too much”...

I wanted one big time (my first good guitar was an original 70s Telecaster Custom from 77-79) but could never lay my hands on one, so I ended up getting the Gibson version back in 2012 and haven't looked back since.
