i mean painted art. I like todd schorr. Joe coleman, salvador dali. I have seen a joe coleman painting and it was pretty small. This guy paints with a one hair brush most of the time. I saw it at the giger museum in gruyere. i was pretty excited when i saw it. And john because seriously, i mean.... Far out!

Even as a pre-teen, I was somehow drawn (no pun) to the abstract expressionists. Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Paul Jenkins, and many more. I think it has something to do with how the viewer has to project himself into the work, and determine what it "means" or represents to him.

The National Gallery here in DC had a show of Mark Rothko's black paintings about twelve years ago, and for reasons that are literally impossible to put into words, it was the most emotional experience I've had interacting with art. Absolutely overwhelming.

My favs are photographs by Henri Cartier-Bresson and paintings by Vincent Van Gogh.
I also like anyone that cons the Art World by claiming that sitting on a plastic chair for 48 hours is "performance art".

Probably Egon Schiele.

Vincent Van Gogh used to live here in Antwerp, right behind the corner of the street, about a 100 meters from my house. He painted this from the window of his room, sometime in 1885/1886:

Salvadore Dali and Andy Warhol.
The art museum in Columbia,SC had an exhibit of Warhol's paintings seven years ago minus the Campbell's soup can. I was a little disappointed in this but it was still a treat at what the museum had on display. My wife did not understand the deal with A.W.'s artwork nor care.

What a very broad question. I prefer representational art more than abstract these days although I can sill appreciate it as well. The Dutch Masters work is endlessly fascinating to my eye. The Romantic painters as well. Very generally, artists that can paint light. They're to be found in most every school of painting.
