Folks -
I have a vintage Bass Cube 60; speaker meters within range (7 ohms) but distorts even at low volume, meaning less than the spl of a low conversation.
A. How can this be blown and meter ok?, and
B. Any ideas about a recone kit for this obviously proprietary speaker?
Thx

Are we sure it's the speaker? Have you tried the amp through a different speaker to rule that out?

Speakers can not function or still sound bad but measure correctly.

You likely have a voicecoil that's overheated and distorted. It's rubbing on the former.

You should be able to send it to any speaker repair place - contact them first obviously - and get them to cone it.

My 'speaker guy' will use the correct kit if he can but he 'throws his own cones' and winds his own coils to suit if you want.

Even without the original bits there are generic kits that will fit and work.
