I love Sparks.
I was shocked when I learned they were American not European.
Based off of the title, I was expecting the song "Sparks" by the Who, which I love but have never really considered an earworm. It's catchy enough and fun to play, though.
I love Sparks! I'm also super excited to see Edgar Wright's documentary about them The Sparks Brothers when it's released this June
Yes, they're often called the best British band from America.
One of my favorite tunes from Kimono My House
sorry, if that were my earworm I’d want to fumigate.
I haven't seen this. And if I do I know it's just going to immerse me further into Sparksworld . . .
But seriously, what a hugely influential band. And not all for the best, either. I generally hate synth pop, and these guys basically ushered it in.
They are still great, though.
Egad sir, it's a magnificent melody!!
Brings to mind Queen immediately.
Oh wow! This is a must-see for me, thanks for the tip.
perhaps for you. Don’t let my churlish limitations spoil your Sparks-fest.
The first version I heard of this song was the awesome cover by Justin Hawkins from the Darkness.
Fun Sparks facts...
Their original name was Halfnelson (which I think is actually a cooler name).
Their bass player James Mankey went on to be the guitarist in Concrete Blonde.
Upon its release, Elton John had a bet with producer Muff Winwood that 'This Town Ain't Big Enough' wouldn't break into the UK charts. It went to number 2.
Pretty cool to see the brothers in that video. I'd never seen that before.
One night while on a family camping trip as a kid, I was messing around in the campfire and watching the sparks fly out, and I decided right then that my rock band would be The Sparks.
Anyway, this is my fave by them
This newer one cracks me up.
Dog, that brings back memories. My BIL, before he was my BIL was just another goof in my group of friends in High School. Actually, he was the friend of a friend. Anyway, we'd hang at one guy's house (they had a daylight basement with a pool table, etc. Fitted out for the two brothers: good stereo system, antique jukebox, antique pinball machine, antique Coke machine, etc.) and play Prog Rock. My BIL doesn't really get Prog, so he brings in stuff he likes...Sparks, being one of them. We all thought it was an interesting album and I bought the 8-track...blasting "This Town..." out of my VW's quadraphonic system. Also this:
Oh, and "Equator"...still a great track.
