    Greetings all,

New here but I have lurked for years as a guest. I am wanting to buy and am searching for a sparkle custom shop Tele and have a question. I have seen a couple of recent NOS guitars (not relics) that have started cracking in the clear. Is this unique to the sparkle finish?

    Thanks in advance.

    Jim

Welcome! Not sure if all sparkle guitars crack, but that finish can be a little thick. Stick around here long enough and we'll show you how to make your own sparkle caster!

i only have one sparkle tele... and it's perfectly fine. but it's got a thick poly finish.

if you're a nitro guy... and you want a thick nitro finish on your sparkle tele... i think you're doomed to have cracks regardless. kinda the nature of the beast, isn't it?

I spend all my time figuring out how to dull, fade, age, and crack sparkle finishes. I guess this pic doesn't capture the red/orangish sparkle but this used to be shiny when new.

Here is one I did but sold. I didn't get this one knocked down enough for my tastes. I wanted it more dull and have a gold/yellow tinge to it. I was trying to copy brads 63.

I'm a fool for sparkle finishes. Would love to have a silver RS Vaughan copy...
