    A friend has this guitar...

    https://shop.fender.com/en-US/acous...0sce-dreadnought-all-mahogany/0970113022.html

...and broke the tuning key off one of the tuning machines. She wants me to replace it, which is no problem so long as we can find the part. The specs just call them "Chrome Die-Cast", which isn't very helpful in looking them up.

Any idea where I can get these? A single for the treble side would be ideal, but a set would be fine, as well.

Does this look like it? Tuner

Or you might browse the Allparts, Angela, and Stewmac websites. Or just Google around. That's what I do.

It's hard to break those things. How'd she do it?

If you find a replacement, you probably can't buy just one.
Probably just best to replace them all with something similar.

That's fine, I figured she'd be stuck there.

Not quite; they look like this:

It's actually her brothers'. She said it was her fault, but didn't go into details  I saw pics and there's some slight damage to the edge of the headstock, so I'm assuming dropped/knocked down somehow.

Anyway, I found a Wilkinson set on Stratosphere for ~$20 which I think will do her, but I'm unsure of the size of the holes in the guitar.

SixStringSlinger, let me look tomorrow. I may have one like that in a drawer.

Those are common. Check on Ebay for Singles ...hard to find singles. I have a set laying around. You can probably get a set for $29 or so.

Just the knob, or is the whole thing is ruined?

    Those knobs are replaceable.

    1. Look on E-Bay
    2. Look on Reverb
    3. Contact Fender Parts with the guitar's serial number, and ask them to sell you a replacement tuner.

    ...in whatever order you'd like.

From what I can tell, the knob broke off leaving a bit of the screw behind. I don't have the means of know-how to get the screw out (assuming it's even possible in this case), or of opening up the tuner to try and get it from the inside, without destroying the tuner.

Yes, I've poked around and found some candidates. I was just hoping for more specific info one the stock ones, in order to find something identical, or to at least be sure whatever she gets will fit.

It's always possible, but is it worth it? I'd do like you're doing, find a new one, or if none available in time, get a new set.

Did you pull the tuner yet? You can check your manufacturer stamps against whatever you can find on ebay and elsewhere. Those type of sealed tuners are not uncommon, from my searches...

It's just a favor, so I don't mind putting a little work into it. But yeah, I figured a new tuner/set would be the best bet.

As far as pulling the tuner, I have not; I don't even have the guitar yet. We're pretty well out of each other's way, especially these days, so I'd rather not make the trip till everything is ready for me to do the thing. I could ask her to do it and send me some pics, but the whole do-it-yourself thing really isn't her jam. She treats it as wizardry
