Home is different to small ensemble is different to large ensemble.

The bigger the playing situation, the closer I nudge towards something like a TS ( in my case, either a Kokko of or a Drivetrain 2). Smaller group: OD3, Timmy or RAT copy. Home: BB comp or Comptortion.

Need less gain in any live situation.

    All good pedals.
The BD or TS prob the most versatile imo.
The SF only sounds good for me w dials around noon.

Not to muddy up the mix, but the Danelectro Roebuck has won over my heart, a Mosfet clone

I'm no pro, but to my mind they represent three different families.

One is the Tube Screamer clan. It's the most imitated overdrive pedal around.

The Soul Food belongs to the Klon Centaur brood, which has a smaller but highly fanatical following. More than other types of overdrives, fierce debates rage about which clone is the Kloniest. The refrain is always, "It sounds like my guitar, but moreso." (Love my Soul Food, by the way.)

I'm not sure what family the Blues Driver fits, but maybe it's Boss's takeoff on the old Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal, another venerable gene pool dedicated to squeezing the Marshall stack into a box. I know someone will correct me if I'm guessing wrong.

Some other families include takeoffs on the Dallas Rangemaster treble boost (Clapton) and the Fuzz Face (Hendrix). There's also the Rat, a heavy distortion family with its own devoted following.

Mine's dialled lower than that. I just leave it on all the time and fool around with my other overdrives.

I chose other because my pedal of choice is a rat type.

Tube screamer gets some time as a boost.

I want to get a blues driver at some point.

    Good poll

I have tried a couple of Klon-style pedals, the Tone City Bad Horsie (US$50 new) and the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe (US$130 used). I really didn't understand the love for this pedal until I started playing it into a gainier amp. Now I really like it. With the amp's gain set low, I prefer the Blues Driver.

I don't know what you mean by Tube Screamer type pedals but they all have different electronics. TS is a soft clipping pedal (diodes in the feedback loop), The Soul food is a Klon type with different mid hump than a TS and the Blues driver has has hard clipping (diodes to ground.)

I like the Soul Food the most, very subtle but effective.

All three sound different and all are usable sounds. Buy all three.
