Met him after a show one night... one on one. So I got to talk to him uninterrupted for about a half hour.

I opened the door by telling him that I personally knew some of the peep's in Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, which he sat in with quite often and knew as well.

We talked about his Strat guitar's and the DiMarzio PU's he used in them. Also, about his tuning(s) and the show he just played.

It was an outside show and as we talked it was getting dark. All the people had left and I got the feeling he enjoyed chatting... just the two of us standing in the grass by the stage.

I also told him that I deeply respected all of the work (and genius) that he put into doing what he alone is capable of doing. And, that as far as I knew, no one else on the planet can play slide exactly as he can.

That it was a pleasure to meet someone that is that unique in this world.

I think he appreciated that I "got it."

    Nice guy.

You can say that again. Dang. I've always liked his stuff when I've heard it. It strikes me how little he's actually moving his left hand to play certain things. Lots of behind the slide playing happening there.

Are those frets 10 feet tall or is that the lighting/angle?

Saw him in Ann Arbor the last time he came through. Great stuff.

Saw him about ten years ago in Manhattan - I was blown away by the playing, but it's just not my thing to listen to. Respect, though, for sure.
