Anything by Yes or Zeppelin. Nothing by the Beatles...however...Abe Laboriel Jr killed it on McCartneys Back in the US tour.

Mine is kind of an odd choice since the drums don't really leap out at you, but Driven to Tears encapsulates all the things I love about Stewart Copeland's drumming. By the high standards of the Police, though, it's just an ok tune.

    'Amen, Brother', obviously.

But more seriously, Run-DMC's 'Walk This Way'.

I’m surprised it took someone this long...but I’m afraid the horrible 80’s drum track plus the amazing fill leaves us at net-zero on the “cool drums” score.

That topic brings me 55 years back.

1966. My first band (more or less a surf & pop cover band). We had a 1 year contract as the weekend resident band in a countryside bar.
Four 40 min sets on friday & saturday nights and on sunday afternoons. We had two paid rooms in the adjoining motel run by the same owner.

There was also a GoGo dancer that was related to the owner.

This girl required that we start each set with a drum oriented instrumental.

Here is what we played that I still like very much listening to since it reminds me of all the fun we had then.

So many Police songs with Stewart Copeland's amazing hi-hat playing and high-tuned snare have brilliant drumming on them. For the complete opposite approach, Jerry Marotta's heavy toms and no hi-hat on Peter Gabriel's "Biko" is excellent as well. The message of the lyrics aside, that song would lose much of its power with more conventional rock drums underneath it.

    Most Police songs.
Well, not just because of the drums, but Stewart Copeland seems to be one of those forgotten drumming greats. Similarly, Mark Brzezicki.
Tony Thompson on Addicted To Love and the Powerstation project.
Amazed that no ones mentioned Keith Moon. The Who's Next album would still be a classic if they'd just released the drum tracks.
