This particular version of Angel from Montgomery with Jackson Browne, Kim Wilson and Bryan Adams on vocals is way up there for me.

    Not to mention.....

Nice, and that's Bruce Hornsby playing the squeeze box, right?

The backup vocals on "Gimme Shelter" are awesome. Spine tingling, soul chilling, hairs standing on end, etc. The ones on "The Great Gig in the Sky" make me want to strangle the singer. Horrible. Really, just the worst, most cringeworthy, soulless "vocal acrobatics" I can imagine. Worse than Whitney Houston, if you can imagine such a thing. Almost ruins the album for me (it's the beginning of the end for them in their discography, IMO).

Here's my video for the thread, from one of my favorite pop-rock albums of all time:

There's nothing like blood harmony for good backing vox.

Interesting note -- Bonnie Bramlett was originally asked to do the BG on Gimme Shelter, but Delaney forbade her to do it.

Far from being my favourite b-vox performance, I think Michael Anthony from Van Halen wins the all-time most-underrated MVP backing vocalist.

"Good Timin'," Beach Boys. Carl Wilson also does a great lead vocal.
