We discussed this song in some other context the other week. The original song appeared on the soundtrack to this ( hence the leap to the Muppets seems particularly weird):

Anyway, don’t know if the entire Cocteau Twins back catalogue counts for the purposes of this thread?

Although if you want to be actually onomatopoeic rather than just wordless you could play any ska track as the word ‘ska’ is said to be onomatopoeic for the sound of the rythmn guitar.

Checkout Kurt Elling he does a lot of scatty 'ranting*' type stuff..

*Ranting is basically the Jazz equivalent of what 'Rapping' is to Hip-Hop

Here is probably one of the very first examples recorded from 1917:

This does not necessarily fall under what the OP was looking for, but y’all may find it interesting nonetheless...

In Psalm 150, verse 5 mentions the ‘clash of cymbals’ and ‘resounding cymbals’

In Hebrew, the word for ‘cymbals’ (transliterated) is “Tzil’tzilei” (tzil’tzil in singular). Like the sound hihats make.

Might not be a pop tune, but I think 2000+ year old onomatopoeia is *pretty* cool
