Well, come on, that's the one everybody was going to name with a thread title like that.

But there are more songs about singers singing about mother/fatherhood and giving their kids some wisdom to live by and the assurance that they'll be right there at their sides if they need them.

Paul Stanley said that he wasn't behind the idea of Aping the sound of "Alice in Chains" on Kiss' album "Carnival of souls" as he, RIGHTLY, put it, there already was an Alica In Chains who were doing pretty awesome at being Alice in Chains and that Kiss should Focus at being awesome at being Kiss. So, he simply couldn't find himself behind the concept of the album or the lyrics, since he felt they were insecure. With one very big exception, this song.

When Kiss went into the studio to record "Carnival" Paul got word that his then wife was pregnant with their son and much like with John Lennon, Paul stated that his life changed for the better when Evan was born.

Dutch singer Ernst Jansz is best known for his work with the Ska band "Doe Maar" (Go ahead) but he did some very accomplished solo albums too. One of which is about his childhood home in the rough Amsterdam neighborhood Molenbeekstraat. On that album with that title is a song about his daughter Luna "Luna mijn" (Luna Mine) where he warns her about all the bad things that will come her way but also lets her know that there shall be an equal amount of beautiful things that will bring enrichment to her life and they he shall be there for her every step along the way.

More recently Ernst and Luna collaborated on an anti war song called "Dan huilt mijn hart" (It makes my heart cry)

This one immediately sprung to my mind. Wires by Athlete.

This song is an account of lead singer Joel Pott's fear and hope as he bonded with his baby daughter after she suffered a seizure shortly after being born and was rushed into intensive care.

Sturgill Simpson's A Sailor's Guide to Earth is essentially an entire album written to his newborn son. I particularly like "Keep it Between the Lines" which is as good a distillation of fatherly advice as I know.

Here's one I wrote for my son Harrison when he was around 2 or 3. I tried to make it have a dreamlike quality and a great arranger named Paul Ahstrand really went to town on it. We were thinking a combination of Jon Brion's film scores and Paul Buckmaster's work with Harry Nilsson. I'm really proud of this one. I think when I'm dead and gone, this one will mean a lot to my son.

Maybe TDPRI isn't a Brandi Carlile kind of town, but this is my favorite parenthood song of all time

Probably the most ultra obvious choice, Carole King’s

Watch Baby Fall - David Bromberg

the tragedy unfolds in 3/4 time, with incidental brilliance @ flat-pick - "...and my son took the fall..."

    I'm gutted each time I re-hear this.

Nancy Griffith with Chet Atkins on the resonator covering this great old tune by Malvina Reynolds. Kodak used to use this in commercials and every time it came on my Mom would break down...
