I’ve always thought that bass part was amazing. Joe Osborn.

I get around - beach boys.

Actually nearly all the beach boys.

Pleasant valley Sunday - the monkees. Davey Jones goes off in that one.

Hip to be square - Huey Lewis and the news.

    Queen has already been mentioned.

    The weight - the band

The night they drove old Dixie down - the band

    A lot of the band.

Thought I’d throw out a modern example. Backing vocals are more important in the second verse onwards, but it was nice to hear a range of vocalists on this track.

Not really backgrounds, but triple leads:

Sometimes I can hardly believe a bunch of neighborhood kids could pull something like this off...

Almost every thing from the Eagles and Little River Band. I can´t imagine their songs without the fantastic backing vocals.

Until their de-Meis-ner-ing. Never the same without that cutting voice on top. Seeger's 'Fire Lake' for instance. (Bob, not Pete!) Tim's more a gentle, soothing sort who I was sorry to see leave Poco....but he never called me for advice, so...

Linda Ronstadt in Neil Young's " Harvest Moon".
She hits that G note and sustains it for a long time as only she can.
    Simple and beautiful.
That's Linda taped and played at least two times in unison. Sounds great- check out the film clip on Youtube.

A lot of the Spector stuff, like Be My Baby by the Ronettes - where the backing vocals are as much of an important component as anything else is to the wall of sound -
