I'm in a new all instrumental Dub Reggae band. We play mostly originals and some Dub Reggae covers. We are looking to cover other songs outside of the genre in a Dub Reggae style. We play the vocal melodies on guitar and saxophone. A couple songs we have jammed are "Hit the Road Jack" and "Simple Minds- Don't You Forget About Me" amongst others. Looking to mix up the set with these songs and add a little song recognizability. I loved the Easy Star All Stars covers of Pink Floyd and Radiohead...

Any suggestions of songs that you think would sound good Dub Reggae style? No genre is off limits. Thanks for any ideas!

You mentioned the All Stars album, and I have to say I was floored, floored by Toots and Maytals cover of Radiohead's Let Down.

On a random suggestion, I was listening to early Modest Mouse yesterday (like everyday), and perhaps you'd try Interstate 8? If that's too deep, Float On might work and has better recognition. Like I said, random. Pick 'n choose your influences.

There are a number of songs that work well reggae. For a period a few years ago, some of the oft requested songs at cover gigs I started doing reggae versions... as we were so tired of playing them. Believe it or not Brown Eyed Girl works Reggae! UGH!

Many R&B songs translate well, including rock numbers with the same feel...that style was an early influence on Jamaican musicians picking up Florida, (U.S.), airwaves, back in the day

Some years ago, Ry Cooder recorded Down In The Boondocks and It's All Over Now in a style somewhat similar to
reggae. Both songs seemed to work well.

Led Zeppelin provide such rich pickings for this.
'Immigrant Song', for example. Alter the beat and 'How Many More Times' becomes a reggae masterpiece with that bass line. Some chop and skank over the top and you're there.
If it's for crowd-pleasers, dub out 'Paranoid' or 'Enter Sandman' to annoy the metal crowd ( or make them howl ). 'Smoke On The Water' is a bit obvious, but again, that bassline can be so easily twisted.
In honour of Lemmy, Phil and Eddie, 'Iron Horse/Born To Lose'. Listen to the original to get the gist of it.
