Chuck Berry is a master of songs that tell a story and paint a picture. Songs like Maybellene, Memphis, Nadine, and Brown Eyed Handsome Man.

What are your favorites songs that tell a story and paint a picture? I will start with Dwight Yoakam and 1,000 Miles. Not the best audio but you get to see Pete play.

    Jamey Johnson In Color

Jamey Johnson's song In Color does a great job of telling a story that is very visual.

The one that paints the brightest picture for me is Johnny Cash's version of Sunday morning coming down. Been there to many times and can really relate to it.

Stknky, sometimes a song just sets a mood. Those songs don't really need stories.

Anyway here's a couple with stories:

Sometimes I like'em like this, where the story is more implied than stated. In this one in particular, I like that it comes around in a circle.

And a couple stories for the musicians (more Blasters!)(with thematic similarities):

Rachel's Song by James McMurtry is brilliant in how it unwinds. Most of his songs are, but that one sort of amazes me in how it tells a story just through comments and observations. The arrangement is great too.
