There are songs and genres that, to me, just sound better live. I was listening to a couple of different live versions of Pink Floyd’s Run Like Hell and they are overwhelmingly better than the studio recording.

What songs do you like better live over the studio versions?

I've always thought all songs should be better live. That's what it's like with any good band; you go see the show and you get an expanded, slightly different, more exciting version of what you've been listening to on your albums.

I hate it when I go to a live show and they perform the album note for note. Saw Joan Jett and she did exactly that. I mean, what's the point of seeing you live then?

Dinosaur comment too: whatever happened to putting out a live album every few albums or so? There were so many great live albums back in the '70s.

The White Stripes cover of Son House's "Death Letter" was always INSANE during their live performances in comparison to the recorded version on De Stijl.

Bauhaus - "Bela Lugosi's Dead" from "Press The Eject and Give Me the Tape". The live version has so much more presence overall, and Peter Murphy noodling with the delay effect sounds much more like a natural performance; on the studio version it sounds cheap and over-done.

To my ears, this is the definitive version of this song.

Pretty much every song on Little Feat’s Waiting For Columbus sounds better than the studio version. And the studio versions were excellent.

I hear you. Bands don’t seem to release many live works, these days.

Almost every song by Jeff Buckley, even when the live sound was not great.
