Well what we have here is a White Falcon of what many consider to be the lowest point in that guitar's history, as it is a late seventies Baldwin-Era model.

But funny enough, the fact that it wasn't a desirable model, made it that plenty of Eighties players picked it up and if you look back on eighties music it makes you go "Oh, there's another one" and "No way, even they used it?"

I mean if you talk "Eighties guitars" people will go "Pointy Headstock numbers made by Kramer, Ibanez and Jackson." But the White Falcon was actually more ubiquitous than those super strats.

Well, this clip shows in what genre the White Falcon found its Eighties niche.

Which actually lasted the full decade and well into the beginning of the nineties.

The Eurythmics made a name for themselves as a Synthpop band but Dave Steward being a big fan of Gretsch guitars broke out his White Falcon for this one, it wasn't the last time either.

John Frusciante has name checked guitarist Matthew Ashman as a main influence and having mentioned him...

Well, you could always have included Neil Young, since a White Falcon is what he's usually playing when not playing his "Old Black" Les Paul.

Chris Cheney of the Living End rocks a white Falcon live, although I believe he used a Setzer Hotrod to record it.

Great live band, only reason you didn't hear more of them in the noughties was Cheney had a bad car accident in 2001, spent months in hospital and wasn't able to work for a few years..

Sometimes TDPRI reads my mind. The smoke detector thread and now this. I was thinking of posting a thread about how I want a White Falcon but also know it would probably just hang on a hook so is that still a good idea?
I think they are cool as ice.

Gotto have AC/DC in here, since Malcolm rocked a White Falcon during the "Back in black" era of the band.

That guitar is bigger than he himself was.

Neil doesn't induce the same reaction on the site, but that's true

Doyle Dykes - Return of the Falcon

Ps. Not a Video but good example of what a WF sounds like in the hands of a great player like Doyle Dykes.

Neil's had several, Randy Bachman was his early Gretsch influence

EDIT: sorry I missed the 80's specific topic!

Even Brian Setzer leaves aside his 6120 to pick one from time to time...

No big deal. I mean I posted the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Neil Young, and the songs of theirs also aren't from the eighties.

    Hi.

Yeah, I clicked on the thread to see if the Cult was amongst the first listed.

Recently bought Love after a long absence.

Hmm, what did I just type?

Neither are their White Falcons (they are 50s and 60s models).
    Dave Stewart's is a mid 50s
