Doing the crossword and listening to the Dan, and I was just thinking that Deacon Blues has enough impressionistic detail to suggest a full narrative - Someone should make a movie about the doomed and pathetic subject of the song.

What other songs are built for the silver screen?

AND YOU CAN'T SAY WICHITA LINEMAN

Okay you can but no soup for you.

I dunno how long it would be, but write in a dysfunctional relationship for Billy Mac and a widow who knows people that will kill for money and "Take the Money and Run" by Steve Miller might not be the worst (nor most original) film idea.

How about "Cortez the Killer" by Neil Young? Historical Fiction, anyone?

I always thought of this song as a mini movie. I know foreign films with subtitles are not for everyone

Caves of Altamira by SD.. imagined a child growing up with that discovery as a formative experience.

That one always gave me strong image. I was touring Europe a lot climbing when I was getting into Steely Dan. Was in the caves area a lot. I always get images and a film in my head when I hear it.

Chris Difford was a great story teller.

Elvis Costello of same vintage had some too. Watching The Detectives feels like cheating here. A song based on movies which could certainly be a movie
