Hi again.

To be serious for a moment…

I have recently decided…I just don't like them, even of the music is good, and/or the rest of the lyrics are good. I have even applied this to songs that have been around and I have enjoyed for a very long time, even to the point of scratching some tunes off my favorites list.

This reads, to me, as some kind of contradiction - it starts as a decision, then goes to feeling or reaction, that then morphs back into conscious decision, something theoretical.

As in, it seems you apply this ‘rule’ to songs you like. Do you will yourself not to like them? Or, do you decide you don’t like them, even if you still do? Or, you’re not allowed to like them on principle, even if you do? I’m confused.

Anybody else like this?

There might be, but it ain’t me, babe, no, no, no…

Ah, you missed the inferred conclusion. I applied the "too many repeated lines" clause to a list of songs I did previously like. Those songs that fit the description I kicked off the list, as in, I don't really like them any longer.

Hi.

Lucinda Williams can be masterful with repeated lines.

Edit: which might not really be what the OP is talking about - “Songs that repeat lines over and over and over...and over and over and over.”

Here’s a Rush song which has lots of lyrics, but every line is repeated.

It’s a style of poem called a pantoum, where the second and fourth lines of each quatrain become the first and third line of the next. I’ve been one of those who’ve said the Neil Peart sometimes tried to be too clever with his lyrics but he really knocked it out of the park on this one. (RIP Neil!)

I'm with you. There aren't many Beatles songs I don't like, but that's one of 'em.
I'm with you.

This lady at my mom's church passed away. The only request she made in the way of funeral directions was to play this song. If you knew my mom's church it makes it even more awkward. But since it was literally the only request she made they felt like they should do it anyway. The preacher told me later he was on stage when he remembered the shouting at the end.. and thought 'maybe it's not as bad as I remember" He said "It was"
