This one is very infectious.....

An example of how a simple song with simple lyrics,...and without 'over the top' instrumental acrobatics or histrionic vocals can still be a winner.

My wife and I were just talking about this and the other current Toyota commercial with a similar song ("Rollerblades" by Eliza Doolittle).

The high thin female voice with a slight accent and simple lyrics seems to really be in vogue. I think it "started" with the Apple iPod commercial featuring the song "1 2 3 4" by Feist.

I like all of those a lot. The ones that get me, that probably don't fit your criteria, are by Mette Lindberg for the Heineken commercials. Always bouncing around the room on that one including the ones just posted. Fun stuff.

I was kind of surprised to hear Stranglehold on the new VW commercial. I thought that song was banned but I guess everyone has forgotten what it's about.

Local radio station played the full version of this Mohammed Rafi tune the other day. Great song and some cool guitar bits too!

That Fabienne Delsol album has Pete Molinari on guitar. I highly recommend his albums!

Heineken ads have cool music. I had to track down that Rafi song a few months back after hearing it in the ad.

One thing that drives me nuts is all the infernal ukulele music in ads the past 2-3 years. Can't wait for that trend to end.

Kind of cool that this was recorded in 2007. Another artist from the same folks who brought you Thee Headcoats, Cee Bee Beaumont, & The Kaisers.

Do any of you see it as "selling out" to be compensated for a commercial using your song? I don't, I think it's kind of cool.

It's absolutely selling out. But, if I told you I had a problem with that, I'd be a liar. The real issue for me is when the music starts to suffer.
If the music doesn't suck, make all the money you want.

Well, considering that it is getting harder to hear new music through the old channels I think it's a great idea and another source of revenue for the artist. There is that stigma of "selling out" but if an advertising agency wanted to use my song for a commercial I would say "Please do" and the address to send the checks.

What's the deal with the ukulele?

Besides entry level ukers, the market for guitarists/other string instrumentalists seeking to augment their sound/arsenal with ukes has grown tremendously in past 3-4 years.

Guitar teachers who don't offer ukulele instruction are missing out on lots of new students who start with uke and migrate to guitar and bass.

You should give it a try next time you're in the stores. Pick up a standard (high G) uke, low G uke and a 6 string uke to hear what you could be adding to your band's performance and recordings.
