I think we've probably discussed this, but I grew up 1 mile from where Gein's house used to be. And I knew nothing about it at the time, all pre-internet days, and your parents and neighbors and teachers weren't exactly forthcoming about that bit of dark history

Slayer's Dead Skin Mask about Ed Gein comes to mind. Also, the Toadies Possum Kingdom. The Stones' Midnight Rambler isn't about anyone specifically, but about a killer.

Didn't the townsfolk burn the house down eventually?

Yeah, some carnie promoter had bought the property and had plans to make a macabre museum out of it, so that house "mysteriously" caught fire and it "somehow" took the Plainfield village fire dept (from like 5 miles away) many hours to get there

When I was a kid there was someone picking up professional ladies off the nearby strip and leaving their bodies in front yards in the surrounding neighborhoods. My mom used to take a peek outside before taking me to school to make sure there was nothing to discover.

    Pallas — The Ripper.

(About the Yorkshire Ripper, a serial killer who at the time they wrote the song was still on the loose. And a great atmospheric track with some fine mellotron... I saw them play this downstairs at the Dial Inn in Glasgow several times in the 1980s, and also helped carry the Mellotron back up the stairs to the van afterwards...)
