It’s kinda more fun finger style but Geddy picking this line is bass heaven to me

I just don’t groove with picks. I was a bass player back in my day, and being a big Steve Harris fan I just gravitated to using my fingers right from the off. I even play guitar with my fingers.

But back to the OP question - pretty much anything by Thin Lizzy (Phil Lynott), but in particular their song Emerald.

In addition to those mentioned so far, everything by Bill Wyman and Rick Danko.

    I could list 40 or 50 more.

I've been playing bass for 42 years. When I played professionally it's what played. This pick vs. whatever is a stupid argument. It's like saying only true guitarists use there fingers, teeth, or whatever. Playing with a pick should be just one technique to arrive at a particular tone required for a given song. PERIOD!

Favorite pick used song other than those mentioned is "Round About"

John Deacon's bass playing on "Under Pressure." He plays the opening and bass throughout.
Interestingly, David Bowie had a part in writing this song with Freddie and Brian May.

Some of my favorite bass lines were played on Motown records. I don't know if the bass players used a pick or not. It seems like the important thing is to get the sound you want out of your bass (or instrument in general)...pick, no pick, bow, slap your ding-dong on it, etc.

James Jamerson primarily used his index finger, referring to it as “the hook”.
Joe Osborn mostly used a pick on his concentric knob Jazz Bass.

Doobie Brothers...good call. I like “For Someone Special” off the “Takin’ it to the Streets” album. That was a cool bass line in a cool moody song...and some great textural Rhodes electric piano too:

Doug Pinnick had some cool picked basslines in Kings X stuff. Examples abound but to get a real face full of his weird-ass sorta bi-amped distorted-highs picked tone you can listen to “What I Know About Love:”

Is it strange that I almost always play bass with a pick, but almost never play guitar with one? I think as doing it for years and years before I even noticed.
