I wouldn't say best but certainly a favorite of mine is the Beatles "You Won't See Me."

"I Can't Win" from the same album is even better IMO.

A lot of different folks sing lead/backup on this album: Jimmy Adams, Cliff Givens, Bill Johnson, Herman E. Johnson, Bobby King, Randy Lorenzo, George McFadden and Greg Prestopino.

Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Abba all have great harmonized vocals. Even the Stones have some good backing vocals by people with less-than-pristine singing voices.

Oh, and forgot about the Eagles. Great vocals on many songs.

    Good stuff,

Any idea who is that male vibrato on the Little Sister track ? Was it Randy Lorenzo ?

    Fantastic combination of vocals whatever.

Runner up goes to just about anything by the Band.

    Cheers,

I don't know there are too many, especially Beatles songs.
This one always made me think the backup vocals were being done by the lollipop guild from the Wizard of Oz. Advance to 2:30 for the munchkins

Certainly some of the weirest, perhaps not the best, are Penis Dimension off 200 Motels.
In the cause of research I watched the whole clip, it features Mark Volman in bra and panties and it cuts before the big finale (iirc). You have been warned.

God Only Knows. The Band might take runner-up, but the Beach Boys certainly have to take the top spot.

No mention yet of the Eagles or Bee Gees. More obvious ones of course. The chorus to 'One of these Nights' is a favourite.

Definitely a highlight of The Beatles' catalogue. "Because" is also amazing.

How about "I'm Not In Love" by 10CC? What I thought was some kind of keyboard is actually 256 (or something) voices in the background looped being faded in and out -- pretty cool, uh?

For me, "Hey Joe" by Jimi Hendrix has my favourite backing vocals as I can't imagine the song without them... talk about atmosphere.
