Al Bowlly also recorded it on 21 December 1939. He was killed during the London Blitz in 1940. He was the guitarist in The Ray Noble Orchestra. He's best known these days for 'Midnight, The Stars and You' from the movie 'The Shining', based on Stephen King's novel.
Hi @telestratosonic ,
I just opened up Al Bowlly's recording of this classic song, and I am so glad I did.
This is the first time I heard his voice and his version, and he is an exquisite singer.
Thanks!!!
Rene

Hi, Rene. I wasn't aware of him until I saw The Shining. He had an interesting, albeit short, life. He was quite famous apparently, and still has quite a following. I was surprised that I (I'm 73) had never heard of him until The Shining.
Love your covers by the way. Jim

Hi Jim,
@telestratosonic ,
I have to start paying attention, myself.
I do not think I have seen The Shining, and will have to dig into Al Bowlly and his music.
You are so appreciated, my friend, and pls keep in touch!!!
Keep warm, and stay healthy, Alberta Canada!!!
Thank you!!!
Respectfully,
Rene

I never realized how beautiful the words were until Linda sang it. The Left Banke sang it back in the 60s and they tried to apply a bit of R&R to it and I strongly don't think it worked. I paid no attention to it till Linda sang it and it just really stuck in my head. Anyway, the key of C makes it easy to play, common open position chords.
Linda Rondstapt is truly an icon, and covering this song is a must study, still working, no worries!
Christmas time just keeps us all running out of time, just relax and enjoy the season!
Merry Christmas, ASATKat!!!
Warm regards,
Rene

That is so nice and a wonderful tribute to your friend as others have said, your best so far the key, the arrangement and feel really suit your voice.

If you weigh a whale at a whale weigh station where do you weigh a pie. ;)

I'll get my coat

Great Song! Although I don't sing it I play it on my fiddle and the melody is soothing to my soul. You can play it anywhere and people will stop and listen.
Maybe you need to have a chat with Rene for a collaboration on this in my head I can hear the fiddle drifting back and forth from the melody/root to the diatonic 3rd.

You are so awesome, @suthol !!!
Your collab recommendation is so loved!
And I am impressed with he diatonic 3rd voicing.
Is this the normal harmony "go-to" voicing?
I am lacking in music theory, and I love your comment!!!
And @Tom Grattan , is so appreciated, the fiddle is always a cherished sound!!!
Thank you so much, my friends!!!

"Over the Rainbow" is a ballad by Harold Arlen with lyrics by Yip Harburg. It was written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, in which it was sung by actress Judy Garland in her starring role as Dorothy Gale. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song and became Garland's signature song.

It's where the secret sauce lives, because it is close to the melody and moves around where the 5th is reliable like an old pair of slippers

Dedicated to my best friend, Sergio Nabatar Jr aka Jok-Jok, who I have not seen for a long time. This is his favorite song, playing with his ukulele.
Also, dedicated to all peoples looking for a hope and peace in this troubled world.

Truly great!
