Cool restoration video of an old fractal vice.
I think I need one of these.
I would hate to think what a new one would cost if anyone still makes them. A decent fixed straight jaw hobbyists mill vise start at about $200.00 and move into unobtainium very quickly.
A decent vise is the first shop tool you should get after you install a workbench.
I agree 100%......the SECOND tool should be a bench grinder, on a stand. You won't believe (unless you already own one) just how useful they are.
Was a machinist for 25 years, I agree with you both.
I survived 40 years of woodworking without one...in fact I never ever heard of one until today. It's a cool idea though.
That was interesting. I had no idea….
A quick Google search didn’t turn up much of anything. I guess it’s a thing that just isn’t made anymore. The one in the video looks like it’s probably 80 years old.
That video could be used for ASMR.
www.fractalvise.com Made for engravers price is “to be announced” but you can put a deposit on one
Sorry I’m not smart enough to make a hyperlink with my phone
Hey I made a hyperlink!
That is cool. With today's cutting technology they ought to not be super expensive, but probably would be...
Very cool vice! I have never seen one like that!
There’s files out there to 3D print them.
Epic vid. I want one.
Just imagine the man hours that went into making that vice 100 years ago.
fascinating to watch.... I'm amazed someone thought it all up to make it.... I'd never seen one before either...
What do you mean?
Is that like having “A” toe and “A” finger?
Well, ya start with one.
You know; smoking, drinking, cursing-that kinda stuff.
That is the coolest vise I have ever seen. Added to the list of “someday” tools.
