This is pretty well known history, but it's good to get some more in-depth history.
I am dubious of the accuracy, though. Stern made a statement that when the original artists sued they were only awarded royalties on future sales, not past sales. I don't know about all of the artists, but Willie Dixon sure made a mint on back royalties. He used some of the money (maybe a lot of it), to found the Blue Heaven foundation, which now owns the old Chess Records building.
