Here's a spoiler for those who comment without watching the video: ***He actually likes the amps!***
He's just kinda making fun of snobs like me, who think tube amps suck less than solid state amps do.

I still go back to my my Lead 12, owned from new and I'll never sell it. Also the list needs an honorable mention of HH Electronics and in particular the V-S Musician combo which saw me through my teenage new-wave phase.

The JHS Show is my favorite guitar channel on YT. And the most entertaining.

If you don't have a lot of money to spend on an amp, solid state beats tube most of the time. Good luck if you are trying to find better tube amps than old solid state Peaveys and Yamahas for the same amount of money.

    Hi.

I want to watch it now. I only play power chords, but I do so with my pinky, so I'll get to feel superior ;)

I know that dr.groovy himself Scott Grove held Johnson’s in high regard

A lot of people don’t like him but most of what he says is accurate

I’ve thought about getting a Johnson because of Scott’s praises

Woe! I’m the same except NEVER use my pinky, I figured out how to play 99% of what I play without my pinky

Although now I wish I wouldn’t have neglected the poor little fellow.... :(

    This is my SS Amp.
An old Echolette CA80 "Made in Japan" 1980.
They were made by Zoom in Japan.

It's a solid state copy of a Mesa Boogie and sounds great.
And it's as loud as my Peavey Bandit.

It's pretty much a tradition around here to reply without reading the original post...

I saw this video earlier this week, and it kind of has reinforced thoughts I already had.
I love my all tube amp, my back does not love my all tube amp.
I saw some reviews of the Victory class d/ tube hybrid amp pedals and I'm seriously thinking about changing over. ;)

You're on to something. I spend a lot of time plugged into a 20+ year old Evans S150, a 150 watt 1x15 combo. It's sort of the SS version of the old tweed pro formula. Warm, fat, loud as you might want but sounds just as good down low. My archtop guitars sound so good through this amp.

I have a DV MARK MICRO 50 M SS AMP.. I use it daily sounds excellent on the clean settings.. Takes any pedals you care to mention and has a decent reverb.. Never had any kind of problems from the day I bought it.. I prefer to use it more than my Egnater MK 2 head because it is very light to carry around.. There are some very good SS amps around nowadays and at affordable prices.. I used to be a tube amp or nothing guy in the early days when I was convinced that TONE had to come only from a tube amp... I eventually learned that SS amps have come a long way and in some instances they can offer REALLY good sound...

    I hate this amp.
    upload_2021-6-11_8-8-39.png
I hate it so much I sold all my other amps, so I can play it exclusively in my band, just to be sure.

And then I bought a second one just to be sure and have a backup. Yep, I hate the second one exactly as much as the first.

    I enjoyed this line....
RE: JC 120... "it's one of the most legendary amps ever but it's sad that it's solid state cause solid state sounds so bad".

Sadly, we have all encountered that level of ignorance...

Oh yes, those are bad! Just don't get me started on how much this sucks. I plan to upgrade the speaker just to make its awfulness even more plain to hear. And parametric EQ in a guitar amp - madness. I guess it might be OK if it was a tube amp, but really...Champs have one knob and don't suck.

Uhoh no more cheap Yamaha SS... The secret's out.
Paul Rivera helped design the GxxII series. The parametric EQ makes it a recording dream.

Scott’s an honest guy who just loves guitar equipment as a whole. I think solid state being good is old news that people are recently coming around to. All distortion and overdrive pedals are solid state and most guys use those without batting at eyelash.

I will say it’s easier to find a good sounding tube amp compared to solid state but the market is also flooded with cheap solid state gear. In the same price realm, solid state is just as good as tube. It’s just a different sound, not a better or worse one.
