I just upgraded by squier tel custom with four fender cts 500k split shaft pots only to find the stock knobs will not fit. The part no. of the fender split shaft pots I have is 0990834000. Can anyone tell me if these are standard on strats and if I order a set of genuine fender knobs will they fit. I've ordered replacement knobs and pots fro a les paul I have before and none fit.
I have a tele standard with solid shaft pots and its definitely a much better design.

I forced the squier knobs on and they fit fine. Probably not the best for the pots but what can you do. I learned my lesson and will buy solid shaft in future.

I hope you're kidding.

You're at least as likely to get tonal improvements using different knobs. Instead of the stock knobs that go to 10, use knobs that go to 12.

Mine only go to 11.

I think the 12s put too much strain on the guitar.

;)

P.S. I switched the Strats over to split shaft not too long after this thread popped up back way back when. I decided the traditional knobs looked better and besides, they're cheaper and much lighter in weight.

so can a split shaft tone pot fit in a telecaster metallic knob???

I have three guitars with split post pots that have standard tele knobs. You just need to align the set screw with the the split in the post. That seperates the post and wedges it in the knob.

And you can put a shim in the split to keep it from collapsing. I just learned this yesterday (7 mar 09) on the TV Jones website. He rewired a Gretsch with split shaft pots.

Personally, I like brass solid shaft pots. Gives increased resonance and sustain.

:DJust kidding!!:D
