It's normal to post threads about new stuff you buy, NGD, NPD, NAD, etc.
But what about when you sell your stuff? Don't you want to tell somebody, and why you did it?

I sold off my EHX Glove recently, not because I didn't like it, but I bought a Boss SD-1 and already had an OD-3 AND still have my Joyo Ultimate drive, so it was an excess. But I gotta say, I did not like the button.
It was much harder than my other pedals, and it was kinda annoying to have press a little harder and feel that "CLICK!". So, no hard feelings, but I sold it off.

What have you sold, and why?

I rarely sell pedals. Guitars and amps are keepers as well. Pedals usually aren't worth enough money to make a huge impact, and sometimes my tastes change. However, there are some very popular pedals that I have sold/ traded/ gave away that just don't do anything for me personally.
Boss Bd-2, Eh soul food, Mxr distortion plus, Rat. (Didn't work for my style or rig choice)

BOSS OC-2. Never used it, the mij's got expensive so I sold it at the top of the market for almost 3 bills.

Boss Dd-5. The coldest, most sterile delay I've ever had.

I'm not picking on Boss, it's just that I've aquired more of them because they have been around so long.

I give stuff away or throw it away. I hate the whole process of selling it. I like humanity a lot better when I don't spend time talking to its "savvy" buyers.

I’m definitely with you on that! Trading can be nice too sometimes.

I’m more of a trader nowadays.
I’ve eBay sold a few things, but not in several years.

I recently sold a tweed BJr I got in a trade. Not because I didn't like it. I liked it a lot. I just didn't need it. I have a couple of vintage amps that scratch that itch, and another newer PCB amp for.... that itch. Bases covered. The BJr is a great amp, IMO. But it's certainly nothing special or unique.

I used the dough for something I really wanted. It took me a couple of trades in my favor to get there. I done good. I typically don't like the selling/buying dance. But in this case it was satisfying. I came out ahead.

I sold en EHX Neo Mistress that had outlived its usefulness. I was using it at the lowest possible settings just to add some bite to an overdriven tone on a guitar with an underwhelming sound. Got a gooder setup on the guitar, and a better boost, so I sold the flanger as it didn’t really appeal to me for its intended (ab)use. A satisfactory stop-gap, and a happy transaction!

Me too, but it was a fair deal—my soul was crap, and I wasn’t really using it...

To actually respond to the OP, I don’t usually feel a need to justify a gear sale to anyone. It only matters to me, so unless it was one of my “I will never sell this” items, no justification necessary. And I haven’t had the urge to sell any of those.

I haven't sold any of my gear (yet)...but I can tell you with other things I usually drop them at Habitat, Goodwill or the landfill.

Sold a Custom Shop Strat. Bought a 1983 Strat Elite new for $300 and traded it years later for a new AVRI ‘57 reissue, then sold the reissue. I figure that all covered what I spent on this original ‘56:

I sold my PRS Special Semi-Hollow because the Telecaster is my home.

My first strat was a black 76 stratocaster. For all its faults, I loved that thing but it had a couple of dead spots on the fretboard. I didn't realise how bad until I got another strat and heard that thing ring out. Sold it.

I also had a Guild starfire V. It was a nice guitar and I may buy another one, but it just didn't do much that my les paul couldn't. A little too much overlap for me.

I really enjoyed this rig rundown with Tom Bukovac.

So many thought provoking tidbits. One of them was along the lines that if he does a gig with a piece of gear and it doesn’t jive with it, he sells it. Also, that not all vintage pieces are good, but he can play one chord and tell if it is a good one.

Made me think I need to let some pieces go.

Does this apply to trades or partial trades? Like when I traded my Fender CS Tele for a PRS Artist Package (with Brazilian Neck)? Well along with some cash....
