Ok, you scrimped and saved your pennies and finally came up with the 1.7-3.0 million smackers to buy a new Bugatti hypercar, did you?

Well, bucko, keep turning in those pop bottles, because the annual service costs to keep that 1000hp+ loony bin on the road are equally staggering.

I do understand that, to the discriminating folk who can play at this level of craziness, such trifling concerns barely register, but, mercy me, that's a truly impressive exchange of funds just to brag your buddies that you can go out for cat food at 250 mph...but of course, you actually can't go anywhere at 250 mph, so there's that little hitch.

LOL...I think I'm gonna pass on that one ;). Buying two Miatas to wear as roller skates would be more sensible.

(No insult was intended to Miata owners...I live with the knowledge that there are some cars I like that are not a good fit for me).

Anything on that level will cost that much to maintain. Yacht, mansion, jet...

Heck, there are supercars you buy but don't even get to take home, they will just deliver it to a track for you complete with pit crew when you can afford track time.

As interesting as that article is, it got eclipsed by the link to another article about a guy crashing one on purpose for the insurance payout.

    Thanks for sharing!

The exponentially rising costs of operating and maintaining super high performance vehicles is a given, but I can take some solace in knowing that I can buy a nearly 200 mph top speed motorcycle that will equal the Veyron in raw acceleration up to the mid 100's for about $15,000, with an annual maintenance cost of, probably, no more than $1000...including, in my case, insurance.

That thing doesn't even have a trailer hitch.

For the annual costs of that Veyron, I would be surprised if you couldn't keep your North American P-51 warbird in the air instead.

This is so true! I used to own a Nissan 370Z, and on a much smaller scale, it had the same issue.
At legal speed limits, it was no fun to drive at all. The suspension on a car like that is ridiculously stiff at 0-50 mph. At 95+ mph, the car was an absolute dream to drive. Smooth, controlled, responsive. Being a CDL holder, I could not afford a reckless driving charge, for driving that fast. Fun, but frustrating car.

North American P-51's are currently going in the $4,000,000 range, but if you're on a budget, but still have the desire to show those Bugatti wimps a thing or two about performance machines, this oughta do it...and you can get it for $1500 a month financing.

On a related note, I am currently back to working in the auto industry, for a “premium” brand. As with my last go-round, I am getting a sore neck from shaking my head at people who buy an expensive car, and are shocked at parts prices. Why did you think your $70K car would be made of parts that are as cheap as those in your $30K car?

I wonder what kind of trade-in I could get for my deer-dented 2009 Scion?
I check my stock portfolio and talk to my hedge fund manager.
    I’ll get back to y’all.

I wonder what the TBO is on a F-86’s engine, and how much that overhaul costs...and the fuel!

My dad had a buddy who bought into a group ownership thing on a F-86 a long time ago. I think he took a little instruction in it but bailed due to insane costs.

If I had that kind of money I wouldn’t buy one! I guess I’m a cheapskate. I blame Dad. He grew up during the Great Depression and it rubbed off on me.

When I was young, I looked at cars and said, “Wow! Look at those aerodynamics! Listen to that engine! I’ll bet that thing is fast!”

These days I look at cars and say, “Wow! Look at those cushy seats! And they’re heated, too! I’ll bet that thing is comfortable!”

Well, if its something like a Lincoln or a Cadillac it is mostly the same parts, that's why.

Now, is that gonna be urine-proof upholstery on that thing? I have to know.

Used MIG's are even cheaper. I think 100K for a MIG 21 last time I looked.
