Wait till she sends you the bill for the relic job!
Did she really take the time to light up a butane torch?
That is a very specific kind of revenge.
Realistically, if you love that guitar, I'd probably take it to a good luthier, and offer them whatever it costs to repair and renovate it properly.
I'd also change the locks, and buy a gun.
See Willie Nelson on that one. I highly doubt he wore that hole into "Trigger" without the aid of some woman's scorn.
Note to file: Never let your better half fatigue your Tele.
That’s a lot of crazy! Was she a redhead?
Butane torch AND a knife/chisel vs a Tele. It’s a wonder you could salvage the poor instrument.
Waiting to see a pic' .... especially one before your repair attempt.
Sounds like you got off lightly.
Ok. Serious suggestion. If you have 2t, 2v and sanded the top thin it means you have no pickguard so add a pickguard. The pickguard will reinforce the top.
Modern player thinline has 2+2 layout.
For the sand-through put some bondo over it. Sand and paint.
It's a glued neck, so maybe chop off the sides and add new sides.
my thinline was through a similar nightmare. Professional repair was not cheap.
Please no pics i am glad i forgot about the horror.
Ouch. A new top or you could make it a bizarre frankenstein monster/ steampunk type of patch up by gluing pieces of wood or metal to the affected area's.
"and that's why I killed her, your honor"
"Butane torch" makes it sound as if she was lost in the 'weeds.
I looked up your ja-90 thinline. I think you could fit a modern player thinline deluxe pickguard on it. It would reinforce the top, fit the p90s and not interfere with the f-hole. It won't cover the lower horn, but should be ok for everything else.
Set neck - that's what I was thinking when I read the suggestion to "replace body" - I haven't seen the Stew-Mac vid on how to do it w/ this model.
And, yes, I was also guessing that gal was a redhead.
Peace - Deeve
She knew I really liked this one so she took extra care with it.
Thanks I'm definitely gonna do that ,
You see a hole in a guitar and assume it's a woman's fault? Willie's been flatpicking that no-pickguard Martin for 50 some years. Watch this video:
If a young man took no advice but this, he'd be off to a pretty good start in life.
Well... I suppose it's a good thing she did that to the guitar, and not you you! Geesh.... crazy man! Yeah, get some pics of it and put em out here. I'm sure it's repairable but it might be better to just get a new body... need pics to see/advise...
Cover with a custom tooled leather overlay?
