Red Dwarf is coming back from the dead next month. I'm gonna not be cynical about it and just enjoy the show, who's with me? anyone in America know what i'm talking about? Here's the guitar burning bit from series 3:

Red Dwarf was funny until money got thrown at it and they removed the laughter track.
I've watched the recent specials and they're awful!

I still laugh at the early re-runs.

Also doubtful. They can leave out the laugh track, though. Telling me when to laugh doesn't make it funny. If it's funny, I'll know when.

I was amused to see the Cat (Danny John-Jules) on the Brit cop show Death in Paradise.

Hopefully I'm as wrong about this one as I was about Dr. Who.

Think that coincided with one of the original writers leaving.

Yep, I'm a Dwarf fan. If you're on G+, follow Robert Llewellyn (Kryton) to keep up with all the related happenings.

Love the old stuff. The reissue usually suffers.

absolutely! i cannot WAIT for the new Red Dwarf series to hit the US (probably won't be until after New Year's, much like Downton Abbey.)

i've been following Robert Llewellyn on Twitter for a couple years now, as well as on G+, and he's been keeping fans up to date on the new series. the new episodes were filmed in front of a live audience, no laugh tracks. there are six new episodes and a bunch of PBS markets in the US optioned the broadcast rights before they even started shooting! unfortunately, like a lot of British TV on PBS, we'll get it a couple months later than the original air date in the UK...still, i can handle that since it'll be on PBS and not BBC America (i don't have cable.) considering it's set to air in the UK around the same time as series 3 of Downton Abbey, we'll probably get it in the US around the same time as Downton (January for DA, so probably February or March for Red Dwarf.)

and, accord to Llewellyn himself, Red Dwarf X is "lightyears better than" the 'Back To Earth' special from a few years back (which i also thought was pretty bad.) i'm quite looking forward to it!

Anyone else see the first of the new series last night on Dave?

Wasn't quite up to the series' heyday, but very enjoyable nonetheless and some good gags. Great to see all four of the crew again, even if they have aged a bit.

Yeah, it was a great deal better than I had expected!
The gags weren't quite there but so good to see them going back to what made the show great- just the guys pissing about on board the ship. It LOOKS like Red Dwarf again.

    One thing bothering me though.

    How can Kryten have wrinkles???

I knew there was an ingredient missing!
I thought it was pretty good and loved the moose bit, but why do we have to get canned laughter, do the producers think we are so feeble minded that we need assistance in laughing ?
