Yes. 2 seconds is a long time now.
2 seconds, it's worse than that with he ISP I have, almost free dial up modem like at times, where the router doesn't have service internet connection. Maybe it was the mistake of opting in for the government discount where they track & monitor internet usage.

I think if you start pumping, stop for a second and then start again it pumps faster...of course it could be just my imagination?
I remember when the gallon reels moved much faster than the $amount reels too.
And the pumps had a little bubble with a ball in it that indicated flow.

I’ll tell what I dislike about modern gas pumps-the little TV that comes on when the gas starts flowing.

On Gilbarco pumps with a row of four buttons on either side of the display, the second button from the top on the right side will mute the audio unless the retailer has disabled it.

I’ve started walking away far enough to where I don’t have to listen.

Jeez…
FWIW- Don't know if this is universally the case, but I've discovered that our local stations pumps' TVs can be muted if you press the second button from the top on the right next to the screen. It's the first thing I do after I start pumping gas. Makes the gas station experience a lot less annoying.

edit: Just noticed blrfl's post. So, it might be a something that will work at most stations.

If you can get them to start, without clicking off of course...

Back in the days when gas stations around here had service bays, I worked at a few.
Exxon specifically at the time had a proprietary filter that was extra fine. Which is good. Except that it would get restricted and slow to a crawl. Bad.
They would get replaced about four times as frequently as other stations I was familiar with. And they would run out of stock and have to wait for more. Bad.

I learned a lot of strange things working in gas station shops and observing people.
Their nuts!

One thing I never would have guessed- I had no idea how often people leave the hose in the filler neck and drive off. I was floored by the frequency.

Not the same, but related; I had a 2007 Yukon that somewhere around 2019 developed a filler tube problem which caused it to only accept fuel in small slow doses. So I had to slow down the flow or the pump would click off as it does when tank is full. I’d actually look for pumps that ran slow. @MarkieMark probably knows exactly the problem with the filler. I was told exactly what it was, but I’ve forgotten. Something to do with the mechanism that minimizes vapor release. I do remember it cost more to fix than I could justify. I was about to sell the truck anyway. I considered it a minor inconvenience.

This is something that should be very simple to prevent if auto manufacturers cared enough to do it. I have owned three plug-in hybrid cars over the past 13 years. It is impossible to drive them away while they are plugged in. Why couldn't be impossible to drive an ICE car when the gas hose is inserted into the filler neck?

Exactly…now there’s a helpful word for the community…thanks, service station sponsor for that.

I always assumed the pumps were slower when gas prices were higher so people wouldn’t roll past their target too quickly.

I was driving my wife's Forester back from our daughter's house and noticed the gas gauge was down to one bar. So, I went past our street down to the Shell station on the corner. I had to hit the select button four or five times to get it started then it pumped really, really slow. I didn't look at the time I started but it felt like 10 minutes.

There was a woman who came in on the other side in a Sequoia who was cleaning her back seats for a while, finished that, tried holding the trigger, gave up and got in her car to look at her phone. She may still be there.

It's not usually so at this station. I wonder what's happening.
New Caps & Tubes.
Those Pumps will be back to normal.

Yeah, its commonly caused by an issue with the vent valve, or that portion of the evaporative emissions system on those vehicles.
Usually, the valve itself in that vehicles case. Some GM trucks also had a service campaign that involved replacing and re-locating the valve and its filter.
But as others have mentioned, there are a few vehicles that are just cranky and trigger the filler shutoff too easily.

They should all come with those giant fuel filler necks (in front of the rear tire) like the old Kaiser M715's had in '69. Sure can't take long to fill that thing...just shove the whole pump down the tube.

I remember years ago when gas was under 80 cents a gallon there was a pump nearby that would fill your tank in a couple of minutes. In and out.

As fuel prices kept getting higher it’s like they slow the pump down so that the price goes the same rate but the gallons go slower.

At least that’s how it looks to me.
