Is there one that excels at this or should just a cheap OD suffice (ex. SD-1)?

From what I remember, the MXR Micro Amp might do the trick too.

You pay for what you get...
Slight dirt and slight boost are little different..I would stay away from something
labeled "distortion", or , that is what you will get. But that is IMHO only.

Wish you luck...

If you can find one, try an Earthquaker White Light with the gain way down. That's what I used it for, and it plays well with any guitar thanks to the compressor switch and weight knob.

I use a Ibanez Jet Driver as my main dirt set to a medium gain. I love that tone and want something to push it a little more into a higher gain without changing the tone too much. My Dyna Comp isn't doing it for me anymore...it's too compressed and really clobbers the low end. My love affair with the DC even as a comp is slowly dying...even at lower settings it's too much. That's where I thought a booster with a bit o' grit would be nice and I'll just drop the comp altogether(again) or pick up a Maxon CP101 at a later date. Just want to drive that Jet Driver to another level instead of bothering with a distortion pedal. I've been through so many and I never really like any of them. Distortion is a tough nut to crack for me and my amp does a fine job at really high gain.

Good suggestions, but I was hoping for something on the lower end of the financial totem pole...no more than $100.

I use the boosta to dirty up my amp, a DRRI. Yours may have more headroom.

SD-1 would remove the low end. OD-3 with the gain all the way down works for this application pretty well ime. Tons of volume in that pedal.
