So a buddy of mine has given my floyd equipped/ cheesy/ shreddy guitars the moniker "Slick Rick"... idk why? Lol

So he inspired me to make something tacky and cheesy, and representative of "that" era.

Still have some airbrush work to do and alot of clearcoats and wet sanding/buffing...

What do you think, does it hit the mark?

Both desribe the 80's vibe perfectly. I'm digging it and like to do "what if" themes on builds too. Sometimes I'm the only one that sees the humor though...

I like it, but I'm not rock star enough to be seen playing it. Nice work!

Nope that is purple, pink, and turquoise glitter powder from Hobby Lobby... LOL

Shot a few medium coats of flat black enamel, then tossed the powder on the wet paint...

Then a few coats of clear and another dashing of powder...

Now just some airbrushing and ALOT of clear coats to go.

I don't want to overstep, but I'm thinking it will also need black hardware and a Dimarzio in some obnoxious color. I would be checking reverb for a used pink or purple f spaced super distortion.
Not because I like em, but because that's what it should have. Lol. Second choice would be a JB. I would use it for Ratt covers only.

It screams Rick James sitting in with P-funk in Dayton OH with Bootsie on bass.

Sadly since this I a "parts drawer" build, its getting a (painted a crazy color) Duncan designed "detonator" and the factory chrome bridge that isn't a floyd.

The guitar started life as this
    967aa7e922f5d3472b628e87b8f8daa3.jpg

This was the 2nd guitar I ever owned, and all I had left of it was the bridge and the body...

I blocked off and filled the 2 single coil holes, the selector switch slot and the center control knob.

And appointed it with a very well worn naturally yellowed maple neck/fretboard from an old Squier 2. The squier 2 I traded a broken car amplifier for when I was in high school... the neck was and is FANTASTIC... but the body was press board (not plywood) and everything was equally junk.

So I scrapped all but the neck years ago.

Here's the bridge, very heavy with a very thick heavy duty steel block.

And the "detonator" I got out of a squier I bought in a pawnshop for $50...

So this is practically a "no buck" build just to see what comes of it...

My next project is gonna be replicating this!

    That's an entertaining thought lol...

Rick James is one of my heroes actually, despite some of his more notorious proclivities.

I am considering putting together a good "light show" rack with an old ADA-MP1 and a few Korg tuners just for all the seizure inducing lights for good measure.

Love that amp. It's my "country" amp when I'm not playing in the classic rock outfits.
