I was working in the garage today and sliced my left hand pinky right on the tip. Not enough to draw blood but bad enough to make playing guitar kinda painful. Anybody got Tony Iommi's or Django Reinhardt's phone number? I need some tea and sympathy.

Youch! Might sound crazy (pun intended), but I've successfully used Krazy Glue in the past to play with a sliced fingertip.

Good idea, I'll have to see if there's any in the house. I heard medics use it.

It does work. You do get a little pain but that kind of fades into the general background, kind of like when you let your calluses lapse (which for the record, I haven't done in ages).

    Good luck!

I agree. Krazy or super glue works great.

Is this some kind of passive/aggressive hint that you are actually one of those who uses your pinky to play? Huh?

    Wise guy.....

Soak it in a cup full of a strong epsom salt solution for about an hour. I get a lot of splits to the tips of my fingers delivering mail in the winter and they can be very painful. That long soak often closes the split and almost always removed the pain completely.

Well I don't know about them, but hey - Midnight Rider, dude :) Gotta hammer the C flat on the A string with the pinky, so you can finger the whole D triad on GBE...

I cut my left index finger about a month ago, bad enough to go to the emergency room. They used the medical equivalent to Super Glue. And the doctor said they are basically the same stuff. In fact, I think this stuff started our as a quick way for military medics to close up wounds in the field.

I wouldn't know an arpeggio from an armadillo but I do use my pinky to play a G chord.

I get those splits on the tips of my thumbs in the winter for some reason, the only thing that's helped me is O'Keeffe's Skin Repair.

You could take a hammer and whack the pinky on the other hand, if the pain is greater on that one it should override the pain on the sliced pinky.

It's worked for me a few times when I've stubbed a toe getting out of the shower, fell over and belted by elbow on the tiles. The pain of the stubbed toe disappears as the tingling, throbbing elbow took over.

Good advice Chunkocaster but I found a tube of Super Glue, it sealed up the slice and I can play guitar again. Thanks everyone!

I once almost cut my entire left pinky off. Cut it open pretty good. If my hand had been a quarter to a half inch further, goobye pinky.

I also do this thing where I chew and pick the skin on my fingers, especially my thumbs, but I do them all. I also chew the inside of my mouth. It apparenrly has a name. I do it until they bleed sometimes and can't control it. It doesn't normally effect my playing, because of the spots I do it, but occasionally it will be slightly painful when playing.

It will often look like this. Sometimes a little less bad, and sometimes a little worse. It sucks and wish I didn't do it.

These are not my fingers. Just a general average of how they will look

I'm sure guitar techs have seen worse things glued to a guitar.
