Damnit. He gave it all on stage. One of the best and most influential writers in metal. RIP Hanneman.

Oh yeah did he ever, and Kerry.. I remember being suprised by the fact that Jeff was the one who wrote the really fast songs. Am glad i've seen them live a number of times. they got better the older they got..

Tekbow, that was incredible when they got Lombardo back. The vibe was back and they did get better live as they got older, Not easy for a thrashy high energy show.

Oh yeah, my first time seeing them was during Divine Intervention with Paul Bostaph on drums, he was a machine, but i always knew the classic lineup was Dave. I think what made my jaw drop with that band was the first time i saw the live video for Raining Blood. I'd never heard a drum line like it, or a guitar chug like it. Saw them again in 2002 with Dave back in the seat. Those guys were determined to grow old disgracefully, and it was awesome

I learned that whole album Raining Blood inside out.. That and the band Bathory also killed me for metal as I didn't think there was anything that could top that. Then I started getting back into Sabbath, going back the other way, slow and sludgy and got happy again. An influence that kills your muse, yeah Slayer is pretty special.

RIP Jeff Hanneman.

*No Brown Recluses in Cali. The myth persists but that's all it is.
http://spiders.ucr.edu/myth.html

There's an etymologist that's been collecting samples for 20 years of what folks 'think' is the notorius Brown Recluse ... so far not one of the samples is.

Wow, that sort of destroys my childhood. I remember reading a lot about spiders as a kid and always saw the brown recluse living in SoCal on the little habitat maps in my book. I've seen tons of spiders that seemed to fit the description (about the size of a quarter, violin-shape on its back)....apparently that was just some sort of house spider. Trippy.

I saw Slayer and DamagePlan play together in June of 2004... Incredible night, and now two of those legendary guitarists are gone from us... Rest in Peace Jeff. I will be rocking some Reign in Blood today for you!

I was driving home from Target yesterday when I heard this on the radio. Had to tell the misses 'HEY BE QUIET' so I could hear what they were saying and I still cant believe it. That ruined my whole day and Im still bummed out. When I started playing guitar my very first guitar was some cheap $20 classical that my cousin gave me. I learned my chords and then bought my first Guitar For The Practicing Musician and learned my first complete song on that stupid acoustic, Slayers War Ensemble.
Slayer was supposed to outlive the human race. This is just wrong. Id trade Kerry King in a heartbeat for Jeff Hanneman.

Very proud to say I saw his very last performance with Slayer right down the street from my house a couple years ago at The Big 4 festival here in Coachella. Came out for the last two songs and even with his arm in that big sling, South Of Heaven and Angel of Death were the best two songs of the show.

RIP Jeff! The Slaytanic Wehrmacht will not forget you!

Saw concert footage from a festival in the UK from a few yrs ago.

Not a fan, just was curious. Both he and Kerry King played with discipline in parts that were very challenging! Very.

R.I.P.

Hey man, all respect, but lets not do that, they both had their respective roles in the band, and were as important to the sound and feel as each other, they were a unit. Losing one is like losing both..

I did some reading, I had no idea about the whole skin condition thing. Hell, when I saw Slayer last summer in Tinley Park, I had no idea Jeff wasnt there! However, we sat up on the lawn and enjoyed the music, we wouldnt of been able to see anyone on stage without looking through the hubble.

Its crazy because it was the same exact thing when Chi Cheng died, I knew nothing about what was going on with him. I was a big Deftones fan throughout my high school years. I guess I need to stay in touch with the music news....

I was fortunate to have an opportunity to see Slayer in Singapore a few years ago -- I think this was right after they reformed the original lineup. (I still have a stick thrown into the audience by Dave Lombardo.) Sad news indeed, RIP Jeff.
