Just watched a Tommy Emanuel where he discusses skill vs Mojo playing. With Tommy it's hearing the melody first, then the skill work. As a result of many hrs in skill playing he goes or is drawn back to the melody, and in his case, all the fancy skill work just goes along for the ride. And for him it always works into beautiful complete solo guitar.

For your pleasure

What's your thoughts on skill vs mojo?

No 'versus'.
You need both. Anyone who's made it to the place where you actually know who they are - has both skill and mojo. Even if you personally don't particularly dig their thing (mojo). If you heard of 'em - they gots it.

Instructions unclear, pants and shirt are now wet.

Recitation without emotion requires skill, but doesn't make for very compelling music; emotion without skill is noise.
