    "pretty successfully repaired."

...some good wood glue, careful alignment, a couple clamps and it will be stronger than it ever was.
My opinion.....leave the crack don't bother trying to cover it up or make it pretty.....own it.

(make up a good story....."the band was finishing "Clampdown" by the Clash.....and things just got out of hand...)

No substitute for knowledge and correct tools. Hand tools are all there were before routers. A lot of dues to be paid when you are learning.

Oh hell, a bit of bondo and a can or two of spray paint from Autozone and it'll be good as new.

Oooh! Nasty. I once took a chisel to my '63 tele to fit a humbucker. Still, it was 1972 and we had no idea an old well-gigged and worn instrument would ever be worth any money!

I think it's fixable, but not by someone who decides to use a hammer and chisel in a tele control cavity. Drive over and take it out of his hands before he does more damage...

Let me guess-the chisel wasn't even close to sharp, and he was bashing on it with the hammer.

I'd glue it, clamp it and put it back in service as it is for now - maybe a refin later after dozens of other "projects in progress"

Just because no one else seemed to mention it: Holy Crap! How thick is that paint? There must be 2 pounds of it on that instrument. Yikes.
