For me it's "Right, right, you're bloody well right....you have a bloody right to say..."

The use of the word "bloody" (to me) seems like a clumsy and really dorky way to "shock" listeners. I also cannot stand the way that this chorus in the song interrupts an awesome melodic and rhythmic verse lead-in with plodding dirge and stupid lyric. I just love the song up until this line comes along. As a result, I can't listen to the song.

New thread idear: songs you can't listen to, and why!

Supertramp are British, and bloody is a pretty benign swear word here. Your maiden aunt might be shocked if you used it over the tea and cucumber sandwiches but no-one else would raise an eyebrow. If they'd been going for shock value there were plenty of other choices. Try the Stones' "Star, Star", for example.

I don't listen to Supertramp either though, but that's because I don't like their stuff :)

There's this thing called Google...

Although the actual lyrics don't make much sense.

Blinded by the light,
Revved up like a deuce
Another runner in the night

I assume the 'deuce' is the little deuce coop [sic] that the Beach Boys sang about.
That's what Manfred Mann is singing.

The real song goes:

Yeah s/he was blinded by the light
Cut loose like a deuce
Another runner in the night

I hate the line on a number of levels. You may be right (bloody well right, I guess) and my imagination is adding intent where there isn't any. Still hate it. I don't much like their stuff generally either. Never listen to them.

It's a very English term, used to reinforce a point when one is angry.

I hated Supertramp back then. Still do.

Still trying to decide if "But I'm biding my time, 'Cause that's the kind of guy I'm" (George Gershwin, somewhere in Oklahoma) is the best or worse. While I'm deciding, anything from "Under My Thumb" will do.

Lou Reed “Hanging Round”

And on her face she wore dentures clamped tightly to her nose.
