Mixolydian is just the major scale with a flat 7th degree in this instance the note G. You got there. In style!

When I played the lead I played pretty much a continuous stream of notes, so I used the volume envelop to shut the guitar up for a few bars and let the clav do its repetitive thing. It gave the listener a break, I think.
