Just picked one of these up for a friend since he wanted a guitar and he was working so I said I would go and see the guitar and pick it up for him. He does not play yet but this should be a good guitar for him as it is a nice guitar. But then Samick makes some decent stuff. Here is the description of the SD 50 which is the exact same thing as this guitar so this must be a earlier model of the same guitar. For 50 bucks I figure it was a steal came with a gig bag and a tuner. Guitar is in great shape but a visit to the guitar shop for a adjustment and new strings I told the guy would be a good idea. Neck is good as is but like most guitars a few tweaks and new strings works wonders. Any one else have any of these Samick made Silvertones here?

I found a smaller, short scale Silvertone SGET26 in a pawn shop for my 8 year old grandson last year. Did some research and it's a "George Jones Getaway" model.

Anyway, after cleaning the filithy thing up, tweaking the action and putting on a new set of strings, I did not want to let it go! Not only was it fun to play, it plays in tune, stays in tune, has fantastic action and a tone that belies it's small size.

Have not had an opportunity to play any other Silvertone guitars in this series, but if the quality of this little bugger is any indication, they are a terrific bang for buck value for a beginner or a knock around guitar.

Sounds like the one you got is a lot of guitar for $50!

Well I did not but my friend did! I have a Alvarez I bought last year at a rummage sale for 35 bucks spent an other 28 bucks getting the neck adjusted and the action set and a new set of strings. One of the nicest acoustics I have ever played. Its a keeper but I told the guy who got the Silvertone I sure as heck would not have passed that one up if it would have been for me it is a nice guitar.

Samick makes a good guitar ... with their own label, or for many major American makers ... Gibson, Martin, and Washburn have used them ...

I have an all laminate 1995 Oscar Schmidt OG3-CE ( made by Samick) and it has really good tone..everyone that hears it says it sounds like a guitar costing 2 to 3x more..I paid $ 285 for it 15 years ago... neck still straight only changed tuners + saddle
