and...you don’t charge yourself any tech labor fees, right??

I view these things as projects that will need outlays of money and time...time still equals money in my world.
I never put more into a project than the final result is worth.

Sorry about the lack of a link. So 162.50 tops? I like your specificity. It looks like someone else had it as a project and didn’t finish it.

Any ideas why someone would replace a tube rectifier with a solid state one. Is that likely to be a chosen mod, or just bad fix?

    Thank you for the feeback!

Diodes are 10 cents, a rectifier tube isn't? the 5V winding doesn't work? The socket was messed up? There's other stuff going on in there we don't know? Lotsa fun answers for that one.

Have you ever played any Champ? Just asking because I bought a reissue thinking they were some Holy Grail and realized I cannot stand those amps; may not be worth any amount of money.

They have not reissued a black/silverface champ. (yeah, I know the new vibro champ reverb thing, but that's not really the same at all)

I'd probably buy a straight-out BF/SF Vibro Champ RI ( with a good 8") if it were affordable.
    Partially ( petty, I know!).
because 3 or 4 of my guitar or harmonica buddies own Champs, and I don't! ( they sound great!)

But also I play in a low/moderate volume R&R trio using a Pathfinder( 15 watt SS, with 8") as my amp; so I think I could deal with a Champ too.

    :)
No, I haven’t played one. I’ve never heard of Champ’s being reissued, but I will have to check that out, thanks.

I have seen videos of silverface Champs and I like them. As I understand it Clapton used a tweed Champ on Layla, and I liked that as well as the videos I’ve seen.

I tend to like small and quirky amps. I don’t believe in any Holy Grails, so I suffer less tone disappointments, and great tone is a bit subjective, but I appreciate the input. I’m always glad to hear dissenting opinions.

I already have some widely derided amps and almost universally hated pedals, that I absolutely adore, so... o_O

I do mostly house party, studio stuff so I do mostly low volume. No gigging. If you know two people that have them and you like them, that’s not petty. Thats an informed decision based on experience.

And I'm like the 'king of the low volume R&R/blues gig!'

I just mean that our band has a long history of being able to play good energy local gigs at lower volume- and keep the gigs + get house parties, cocktail party gigs...play acoustic or electric...

( I chalk it up to 2 things-fantastic drummers, and the Boss Blues Driver into little clean amps!)

^yeah, but how long ago was that? Today, you'd be lucky to get that for $600.

I often rock an OD-3 (sometimes a DS-1) into a little 2 watt Greta with a 2x10 extension cab. I rarely play with a drummer Usually I’m accompanying a acoustic guitar and possibly cajon for percussion.

Mostly jams with some friends. Occasional parties and recording with my cousin in his home studio. I’ve sat it with him and a friend of his at some relatively low volume restaurant gigs with a PA for vocals. That’s my preference. Small, low volume situations.

$100 if I really wanted one.

They should be able to sell this one all day long at $200+

In complete honesty, I would recommend you pass on all vintage Champs, Deluxe Reverbs, and Princetons.

Not that they are bad amps (they are some of the best), but simply because they get talked about the most of guitar forums which has driven the prices up for years. Everytime i see a SF Champ selling for $900 I just can't understand it.

It is like old trucks, I saw a stripped down 2 wheel drive truck from 1987 for sale. Minimal rust, some tore up interior, and 174k miles. Listed price was over $21,000. People are just freaking insane today.

If I stumbled across a SF Champ for under $500, I would be interested, but nothing greater. For the money, a Victoria 5112 would make more sense.

The BF/SF Champ is a different animal from the 5F1, which is what the Victoria 518/512 amps are patterned after. The AB763 type of tone stack sucks gain.

Owned mine for about 15 years. Its a vibrochamp sf. Never any issues and great for moderate volume play (no aggressive drummer). I paid 4.5 cdn. (4us)
