Greetings i have been lurking around this forum for some time but this is my first post.

I used to have a MIJ TL62B which i sold because i feel like im not very into the vintage low output pickups.

Recently i read topics about 920D "Custom Shop" guitars while searching for information about tele with DiMarzio chopper pickup. I googled and even search in this forum but very little information is found.
(Found a user bought one tele from them, but the pics are already dead, most people only buy loaded pickguards from them)

I really love the look for their custom Tele with upgraded black hardware, pickups and electronics(CTS).

I was looking at a tele with p-rails and one with chopper+cruiser from them.image removed

The question is, are their heavily-modded Mexican standard worth 900usd ?

Was thinking about getting a used USA tele std and change the stock pickups to some medium output ones (i love the twangy single coil sound but with some output, so i was looking for mini humbuckers)

A used USA tele std would cost around 800usd in my place, and 400usd for mexican ones.

Buying the black parts would be a pain for me, as i live in Hong Kong and there are no parts around, i have to get most (probably all )of them oversea, which cost a lot for shipping alone. After everything including set-up it may cost me 450 to 500, and a lot of waiting and efforts.

To sum-up: Resale value and [Made in USA] headstock is not what i care for, Should i be buying a used USA tele and mod it, or is their modded tele are decent enough for me to keep it life long?

Thanks for reading , any input welcomed!

I bought a pre-wired Esquire control panel with the Eldred mod from them. The quality a was excellent and the craftsmanship impeccable. If they put that same effort and attention to detail in their guitars, you shouldn't have any issues. On the other hand, that price for that guitar? You have to decide that. You can build the same guitar a lot cheaper if you are so inclined.

I second that. I bought a loaded Strat pickguard and was very happy with the quality of the work.

Quality of the 920D work is good but the price is just too steep.I'd get a used MIA Tele and you'd have $$ left over to do mods. EDIT After re-reading the original post maybe this isn't such a bad deal for you after all, unless you can find a used MIA with a similar pickup set. The quality should be first rate.

The same thing im thinking, the price is a bit steep for a MIM tele...haha, i guess i will be happier to pay 200 more for a MIA tele

I've bought a prewired control plate from them for one of my tele projects and their work is excellent. I wouldn't think twice about using them again. I never bother thinking of resale when I'm buying a guitar, and if I do that tells me I really don't want it.

I also got a loaded Strat pickguard from them. Very happy with it.
You can always do things cheaper yourself. Sometimes you just aren't in the mood, and the extra cost seems worth it.

I had been considering the N3 pickup upgrades for my recently acquired 1990 Am.Standard Telecaster, and also considered the Dimarzio Area pickups, but then found the Sigler Music/ 920D Custom shop, where they did much of the work- soldering etc, for a very good price. Received my order quickly- just a few days. I waiting until I had ample time to do the work involved. There were some unexpected problems- I had to widen the route for the controls/switch as the S1 pot and switch was a too tight to install and had to also knock out some extra wood at the bottom of the cavity/ route as that same pot needed more depth. Minimal wiring /soldering- not bad at all , and I had not soldered in quite a few years. You can do this work yourself and not have a local guitar tech charge a lot to do it for you- It was enjoyable.
I am thrilled with the sound of the N3 Fender pickups- very Tele-like in all 3 positions, just slightly different than the originals- not better or worse, just a bit different. NO NOISE! Quiet as expected. A great benefit, since my practice area/studio has fluorescent light only 2 feet above my head. The bonus is the S1 switch that put the pickups in series and sounds somewhat like a humbucker pickup- nice boost and added girth to the sound once engaged. Cannot wait until a few gigs next month to hear them in that setting with the band I play with.
If considering these- do not wait. Take the leap to upgrade it yourself.

They are a top notch company with quality products! I bought an EC style Strat pickguard loaded with Vintage Noiseless pickups and active mid boost!

I have purchased 4 loaded pickguards from them over the past few years and was always very happy with them. They employ actual players which seems to be rare these days and they know their stuff.

I'll never do business with Sigler Music again!

Years ago, I bought a customized LPB Standard Tele with black pearloid pickguard, funky bridge/saddle set and DiMarzio pickups.

I always do a setup on a new Tele and reposition the volume/tone knobs with the set screws in the 6 o'clock position; that way, I know where I am on Volume and Tone.

When I remove the knobs, I discover that the pots have split shafts - and half of the volume pot shaft falls off when I remove the cap!

I immediately contacted Sigler Music via email (wanted everything in writing), and got passed around until finally I got to the head guy in the shop (his name escapes me). He implied that I caused the damage, but that he would take care of it if I shipped the guitar back - on my dime, OR, I could return the guitar and pay a 15% restocking fee! Really?

Luckily, I purchased the Tele with my AMEX card, so when I returned the guitar, AMEX refunded the full purchase price, yet Sigler Music refused to refund the return shipping charges.

Worst experience ever! Sigler Music will never get my business.

Two great purchases for me, an Eldred and a double volume reverse. Fast. Impeccably shipped, a bargain for the quality of craftmanship.
